This post is pretty big and photo intensive so, get a drink, relax, and be patient….

As requested by TMP friends, here is a quick rundown for this past weekends game….

Introduction:
My long planned, often-delayed Call of Cthulhu Game was finally given a green light and a "GO!" for this Saturday, March 22nd.
Out of 12 invitations that I had sent out, (knowing a couple would flake, I was playing the "Joseph Stalin Numbers Game"), it finally boiled down to Five intrepid players/characters:

Before we even begin I would like to thank my fellow TMP'ers that showed up to play…four of us on this site were in attendance. TMP'ers were the majority….which then perhaps explained how it turned out…

My wife (GAWD BLESS HER!!!!), fixed dinner for everyone before the game. We had Sloppy Joes, with cheeses, chips, more drinks than you could decide on, miniature pecan pies, etc…She as always was the ever gracious, wonderful hostess to a bunch of guys that love her almost as much as I do. Forget the fact that she is a "Miniatures enabler!"….

Here is a pic of some of the food, (ie:"The snack table"), with TMP'er Bill Rosser (my "yankee nemesis") helping himself…Everyone should have a last meal, don't you think?…

My "(in)famous and suspicious "Powdered Almond Sugar Cookies"…have one…or three or four…. wink

The Characters:

Introducing the characters to each other was easy. I had pre-generated them including their history. The players (whose names are in parenthesis) and characters and their names were:

1: (Dan Merchant) James Kent: A former Great War vet who came home with a purple heart, a shoulder full of shrapnel courtesy of The Kaiser and has been living with a guilt complex from being the only survivor of a platoon wiped out from a German artillery attack in 1918.

2: (Bill Rosser) Peter Tate: A failing writing who has lost both parents, and has over 45 rejection slips in his professional portfolio. He has fallen on hard times and even in this time of Prohibition, has taken upon himself to drinking…

3: (Melodie Murphy) Elaine Armstrong: Sitting on a nice pile of Insurance money from her recently dead husband, she is looking towards a life of adventure, and learning how to paint in oils and watercolors, after vacationing in Paris.

4: (Shaun Murphy) Robert Whitworth: (of the New York Whitworth's), whose family fortune has eroded as a result of the crash. He's watched his father hang himself, and one of two brothers that came back from the war (the other one still missing), as a changed man, who blew his brains out one sunny morning….His biggest fear is being poor…

5: (Bryan Carter) Brent Connor: Another Great War vet with gas scarred lungs and recently of the NYPD, he has left the force after finding shooting people is becoming "way too easy" for him….

These five souls went forward into the game…..

The GAME:

Setting:
We set the table up in the living room…

And the players took their places…

And it all started with a telegram….

With the death of Widow Agatha Moultree at 101 years, the players were called to Cairnsport to participate in the actions of the will….

As an added bonus, and a "Thank You" gift for the players that were patient and came to play, each one was given a bottle of "Alcools De Citron (Lemon Liqueur) 30% (60 proof) to steel their nerves and as a souvenir. These became quite popular during the game….hmmmm…

And of course for better effects, we played by oil lantern and candlelight….

With liquid courage close at hand, the party explores the old rambling house of a deceased woman who spiraled into madness for clues as to what happened here…

Searching the kitchen, the group finds this little clue, right next to the powdered sugar…hmmm…

Stashed in a floorboard…an old, locked chest! What dark hidden secrets does it contain that is held by these chains???…

By the flickering oil lamps and the candlelight, the group listens as one reads the tattered pages of a forgotten journal…kept under lock and key…telling of how she spiraled into an abyss of murderous insanity…

The reality of the situation of what has happened is starting to become known to the PC's and their faces reflect it…

OF particular interest are the strange glowing red dots that seem to be around Shaun's head….

Within a locked room in the attic…they stumble upon something most profane…Writings and symbols upon the floor under and old rug….and a mirror…with unusual carvings…
Whatever could it mean???…

Sometimes the mirror only reflects…what it wants you to see….
The character continue to stare at the mirror and the floor….while one starts to mumbling from some of the French worded scribblings that they have found….

"Wait…WAIT! What has happened to the mirror???…Oh dear…oh no…..oh my…."

"Since when does carved wood GLOW???…I have a BAD feeling about this…."

"Good Heavens!!! WHAT IS THAT THING?!?!…"
"Heaven has NOTHING to do with it! Keep shooting!!!!

With their companions wisely waiting outside, the room, too scared to do much, and despite their bravery, it was beginning to look bad for the men…and the thing was still coming out of the mirror…and seemed…very hungry for flesh…human flesh…

"We've got to get out of here! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!"
"We can hold it! We can beat it! We can….AAAAIIIEEEEE!!!!!!"

Conclusion…

Elaine badly injured with a burned hand.

Brandon had a broken arm and left the house and the rest to their sad fates…

Robert was tentacled and dragged through the mirror to be fed upon for the next hundred years….

Peter escaped relatively unharmed physically, but mentally…who knows…He DID swear off drinking afterward…

And James succeeded with the groups help in stopping the creature…by burning down the house…

All in all it was a fantastic game and NINE HOURS quickly sped by…..

A good success to all, and I was in bed by 4:00 AM…oh dear….

Once again…thanks to my wonderful wife, (Gawd bless her!), and for everyone that played….

One of my friends said that "I win" when it comes to "game hosting"….

And now they want…"another one"…

Hopefully it won't be another year before the next adventure…..

Submitted respectfully;

Murphy

Looks like you had a sanity blowing time – thanks for sharing. And for reminding what a great, classic game CoC is, especially if you put such effort into it.

I think it is a rule that Call of Cthulhu be played by candlelight.
