Anyone know of an American source for dice frames similar to OR from the ones from Minibits?

What is their purpose?

I was wondering that myself.

They're for "framing" dice. If you have a large Command base, you can glue a frame off to one side or back and place the various Command dice in the frame. Keeps them from being accidentally picked up and rolled primarily.

We use them on our Check Your 6! flight stands to hold the dice that indicate Speed and Altitude.

Our Dicedocks are similar. Minibits took the concept a bit differently by appealing to have them on the base. Ours are really designed to be put next to the base.

We have several different types and shapes as well.

We also have versions that work with our Omni-Stand system and incorporate to the stands.

@Tim – I have ordered from Minibits without issue and the shipping was very reasonable. Customer service was great too.

Hi Tim, thanks for the post! We can ship them over to you, no bother at all, shipping is 30% of the order total with a minimum of £4.00 GBP If you need dice with them as well, we're all out of the green at the moment, but the other colours are all fine.

Give me a shout if I can help with anything.

@ CorSec:

Those are cool, I'd not seen them previously! Ours came about when a customer wanted some way of integrating a dice onto his base, so after a few other designs didn't work so well, we came up with these simple little frames.

Leon,

I will be getting back to you, I just need to figure out how many I need.

Ours were out for a while before you posted yours. It was one of those moments that I kicked myself but we were not working in MDF that much back then and had not gotten into the base work stuff yet. It's definitely a different take and coming from another direction completely. However, I should have made the leap earlier myself :)

@ Tim:

No worries, we've got them all in stock, so they can go straight out.

@ CorSec:

I've done the same with other stuff! We had some storage tray designs which came about after making some boxes for the kids' toys at Xmas, but then I saw someone else making something very similar already, so we shelved them.

I have been struggling with that concept for some time. I tend to take a strict stance on not copying others and only releasing product when I can add some sort of value or invent something totally different. However, the company is growing to the point were I might need to adjust that policy because it will increase sales a bit and give us a broader customer base.

I heartily second artbraune's recommendation of the mini bits service and reasonable cost. I ordered a pile of the 5mm frames, to use along with the dial of the old dial dude small casualty counters.

The dice in frame I use for command casualties, and the dial rank and file.

I'll post pics sometime soon of ones I did for the War of 1812 Yanks & Brits. I glue the frame on the left side, where it fit perfectly next to the dial dude notch set to show the rotating dial number,

These would be good Leon!

The minibits dice frames can be used in a couple of ways – attached to bases of figures (especially multi-based ones) or just attached to small bits of mdf, 2 fit on a 20x10mm base nicely, these make a little dice base that can be put behind a unit (like the CorSec ones).

This is how I plan on using what I have ordered along with my Babylon 5 minis…

artbraune27 Mar 2014 8:57 p.m. PST

So I can use 1 mini to represent a flight of up to 6 fighters…
