I am looking forward to reading Hero, have it my line up as well as Lawrence in Arabia. I read The Seven Pillars of Wisdom not too long ago but it lacks detail and objectiveness. |

I can see why Peter O'Toole was cast for the part. Spitting image really. I was diggin' the Rolls Royce Armored car. Those Brits knew how to go to war in style! Thanks for posting. |

Great link. One of my favorite historical figures and my all time favorite movie. I will never understand how Peter O'Toole didn't win an Oscar for that portrayal. I plan to game that period some day. |

I will never understand how Peter O'Toole didn't win an Oscar for that portrayal. Not that I'm cynical or anything, but let's see
. British film British hero British director and screenplay British lead (ok half-British, but he was born in Yorkshire and loved cricket) Sympathetic to Arabs
yes, hard to believe Hollywood didn't bite. (Although in fairness, I don't imagine having to compete with a certain G Peck in "To Kill A Mockingbird" would have helped.) |

Thank you! I like how the title reminds: "British wanted Arab forces to beat the Turks, who were allied with Germany" (yes of course most people who read this newspaper are not wargamers, they need to be explained). |

Except they were forces of the Ottoman Empire, not Turks ;-). Kind of like we talk about Austro-Hungarian forces and not Austrians. But hey

I still will never understand how Peter O'Toole didn't win an Oscar for that portrayal. British film about Arabs fighting the Ottomans. Should have been a shoo-in. Gregory who? Something about a bird? |
