HI all, I'm having a blond moment here and can't seem to find one online, but does anyone have a pic of Wellington's hat? The Victrix figure I'm painting has 3 badges and I have no idea what colour to paint em .. TA and good gaming. |

In the Peninsula he wore the cockades of: Britain (black) Spain (red) Portugal (blue and red). At Waterloo he added Prussia (silver and black). |

Four cockades for Waterloo? Well you live and you learn, I always thought three
but adding Prussia, of course! Great forum, this is! |

I am sure that the fourth cockade at Waterloo was an orange one as he was appointed commander of the Dutch-Belgian forces. Wellington did not hold a position in the Prussian forces. |

Haythornthwaite's uniforms of Waterloo says Prussia but I have also seen reference to Netherlands which makes more sense. |

Just happen to be reading the Wellington chapter in The Mask of Command by Keegan, and he says that the cockades were British, Portugal, Spain & the Netherlands. Which makes more sense

I thought it was one for each country in which he was a field marshall – that's from me vaguely remembering something I read as a teenager however. |

At risk of putting this back to the top of the heap and drawing attention to it
To quote an earlier contributor; "Locks have the bicorne Wellington wore at Waterloo (they made it in the first place)." I read this with my jaw hanging open. If this had been true, why is it not all over the internet and in every book on Waterloo? Read the link. They have his hat
no mention of when or where and I suspect he could afford more than one
and he did live on after 1815
..well after. |
