Did Spain at any tine in the Napoleonic Wars have brown uniforms for their Light Infantry?

Formally, no, but don't let that stop you. The Spanish could be dressed in a variety of shades of brown and not be at all out of bounds. Units were created and disbanded so frequently between 1808 and 1814 that it is nearly impossible to keep track of them and what they may or may not have worn. Memoirs from the British and French both tell of Spanish units wearing just about anything they could get hold of. In short, if you like the way they look in brown, go for it.

Following the links in this recent thread makes me think the answer is informally yes.

The 1815 army list indicates several regiments in brown, including Voluntarios de Jaen, 1-3 Voluntarios de Vizcaya, and 1-3 de Guipuzcoa.

The Spanish in 1808 had 8 regular Cacadores single battalion regiments. These wore either the M1802 uniform of green and taleton helmet or the M1805 blue uniform with bicorn. Many had an undress coat in brown cloth.

The Spanish from May 1808 raised irregular units and many of these were fashioned as light infantry (Migellete or Sancenes etc… (SIC). Many of these came from Catalonia.

Our forthcoming book on the Spanish Infantry will answer this better. Cronin and Summerfield (2014) Spanish Infantry of the Early Peninsular War.
