I can see a lot of conversion potential here! Another great set! |
Pedrobear | 20 Mar 2014 6:25 p.m. PST |
Any idea whether they will be making plastic cavalry set? |
Cyrus the Great | 20 Mar 2014 6:55 p.m. PST |
I wonder how many of each type of head will be provided? |
Pedrobear | 20 Mar 2014 7:35 p.m. PST |
Quick googling shows the Vikings came with 14 heads and 10 bodies on a sprue – hopefully the Arabs will have excess heads too. I am hoping they have enough tear-drop shields to equip all my spearmen since I prefer a uniform look. Added: Dark Age warriors are 7 heads to 5 bodies, so hopefully that's the ratio they are keeping to. |

Happy you enjoyed them boys!. (smile) Amicalement Armand |

It seems that the ratio of heads to bodies doesn't leave me the option of doing an entire box of figures with one head type. It is similar to Pedrobear's request for enough tear-drop shields. These are a good buy, but I think there are going to be a lot of requests to swap heads, shields, etc. I can already think of things that should be added to the sprues, that are not going to happen either head or shield wise that would improve this box for my tastes. Part of this problem arises from the attitude that an Arab is an Arab and that they all dressed the same. A Moroccan Arab's style of dress will be different from someone who hails from Baghdad. Still, all-in-all, a great buy. |
Griefbringer | 22 Mar 2014 11:03 a.m. PST |
How about we wait for some actual sprue shot before starting to complain about the number of heads or shields provided? (And for those wanting to do skirmishing Arab slingers, you can probably get a few spare sling arms from anybody who bought the Dark Age warriors set
) |

Why would anyone speculate on, or critique, soon to be released miniatures on something called The Miniatures Page? That has never been done before. |
Griefbringer | 23 Mar 2014 12:37 p.m. PST |
Anybody considered yet crossover potential with Saxons, Vikings or Dark Age Warriors sets? I was thinking of the prospect of using spare heads on Viking bodies to represent better armoured Saracens, though maybe the short tunics might look a bit odd. |
Cyrus the Great | 23 Mar 2014 3:37 p.m. PST |
Griefbringer, Except for your brilliant suggestion of getting spare sling arms from the Dark Age set, which I will borrow, I think that not only are the tunics too short, but the leggings on some of the models are going to preclude this. Unless
you cut them at the waistline and glue the Viking/Saxon upper torso on the lower half Arab torso. Hmmm! |
Griefbringer | 24 Mar 2014 1:54 p.m. PST |
What about the other way around, and using some of the bits from these figures on vikings? There is evidence that they managed to obtain trade goods from quite far away lands, so one could maybe field one or two vikings proudly displaying an exotic piece of headgear that he has obtained from some obscure source. Alternatively, the bow arms are something not provided by the previous sets – could it be feasible to hack Dark Age Warriors sufficiently that they could be combined with some bow arms? |
Cyrus the Great | 24 Mar 2014 4:43 p.m. PST |
Going to have to look at the arm configurations for the bows, but right off hand I think they will be robe-like. It might require a lot of trimming. |
Griefbringer | 25 Mar 2014 5:21 a.m. PST |
At least those spear and sword wielding arms depicted in the initial post on this thread do not look excessively robey. However, it is difficult to say anything sure about the archers, since they have been placed to the rear ranks. |

However, it is difficult to say anything sure about the archers, since they have been placed to the rear ranks. Unfortunately. However, 1 box would give you all the infantry for playing Saga. I'll still need multiple boxes. |
Manflesh | 26 Mar 2014 5:59 a.m. PST |
According to the website, the miniatures will be available at Salute but the rules to use them won't be ready in time. They look great. If a set of mounted plastics comes out in the future then I'll be all over them. Leigh |

"the rules to use them"? Surely they can be used with any set of rules for their period. Having said that do we really need yet another set of rules for pre musket? There are a plethora of rules for the ancient and medieval period ranging from the excellent Basic Impetus to the absolutely dire FOG (but, hey, that's just my opinion) via Hail Caesar, the Dux whatevers etc etc etc. And most of the, pretty though they are, seem to cost an arm and a leg. Give us a break, guys. |
Griefbringer | 26 Mar 2014 12:57 p.m. PST |
For clarification, Gripping Beast is not (by my understanding) coming out with any new rules, just a new Crusades supplement for their existing SAGA rules. |
Cyrus the Great | 26 Mar 2014 8:57 p.m. PST |
Well I already play Saga, so this new supplement from Studio Tomahawk is a welcome addition. I have several other of the aforementioned rule sets as well and some that aren't. The more the merrier I say. |
