In terms of ACW Cavalry Horse artillery, was there any difference between cavalry and regular infantry artillery? Uniform, gear, guns etc. Anyone make dedicated 10mm ACW Cavalry Horse artillery? Thanks Duane |

The only difference I know of was that in the horse artillery, every crewman (supposedly) had a horse to ride, whereas in the foot artillery (NOT infantry artillery!) everyone walked/marched except the officers and the 3 drivers on the horses pulling the guns. There was no (official) difference in uniforms. Heavy Artillery units were a whole separate category. On the US side, they wore infantry-style uniforms (frock coats) but with red trimmings instead of blue (such as NCO's stripes, officers' shoulder straps, etc.). |

Yeah, what Don says. The only difference is the number of mounts. |

By 1863 in the Army of the Potomac, all the guns of the Union HA were Ordnance Rifles (for lesser weight). |

And by then, in the AofP all of the horse artillery batteries were from the Regular Army, not volunteer units. They were supposedly some of the best batteries in the AoP. |

Somewhere (TMP I think) I read that no one really rode the horses pulling the caisson. Would anyone sit on the caisson? So for game purposes how many mounted troopers would you model. Regular mounted cavalry figures work? hat? thanks again Duane |
