Just gave my Revell and Caesar WWI German 1/72 plastics a wash before priming and painting when I noticed the Revell figures floated and the Caesar figures sank. None were on the sprue. Huh? Next up, Hat Canadians. |

That would suggest that they are made of different plastics with different densities (presuming that there is no air entrapped inside the figures during casting process). That said, I think that Revell has used a number of different kinds of plastics during the years. |

I run mine through the dishwasher, so never noticed "flotation" before. |

While this could indicate different plastics. There are other possibilities. For example: if air is trapped within the plastic. The surface detail or texture may hold very small air bubbles on the surface. The release agent might be different affecting the binding of air to the surface. |

Hat Canadians float as well. Now I'm wondering what my Perry's will do. 28mm so more mass and they're harder plastic BUT more surface area. Hmmm

Floating is the normal behavior with polyethylene. Maybe Caesar added some filler to the plastic thus increasing its density. |
