I'm writing a novel set in the near future, where a naval task force is tracking enemy artillery fire, and preparing to launch missile.

What would the current correct terminology be for tracking the bogeys? I was using Alpha Sierra, but was told this is only used for sonar contacts.

I also need to know what a CIC would designate a disabled friendly unit that is under said attack.

TIA.

Off the top of my head any disabled asset is 'BENT'…

Thanks for that, I see that I have some recreational reading ahead of me. ;-)

I tried searching, but Google puts up so much dross at times that unless you know what you are looking for it's like searching for a needle in a haystack.
