Hi all,

Although I have found several companies that make 28mm British officers, midshipmen, and Royal Marines, I have had very little success finding minis of standard far British sailors in 28mm.

Brigade Games makes "landing party" minis that are excellent, but not quite what I am looking for. Black Scorpion has "Able Seaman," but as their miniatures are 29mm to eye level, I am assuming they are larger than most of the 28mm minis I have, and the 28mm ships I will be using for gaming.

Does anyone have any suggestions of 28mm British Sailors that might match in well with the other Brigade Games miniatures?

While I am at it, I noticed Brigade doesn't make Royal Marines that I could find. Do any other minis lines that contain Royal Marines match up well when side by side with BG minis?

Thanks.

I echo the Old Glory sailors and RMs they are very nice sculpts. Also, they have the guns, long boats, gun boats, and schooners to go with them.

Redoubt has RN sailors and RMs and a superb RN gunboat complete with RN, RMs and RN gun crew plus gun.

Knuckleduster has RMs and USN gunners (Barney's Flotilla) very nice figures.

I really like the BGs sailors… full of character and clean and easy to paint. All of the above are complimentary for size.

Also Capitan Miniatures has some RN sailors be careful to check for 28mm as they have an extensive range of 15mm as well. Also they very nice figures.

I have all of the above figures so let me know if you need any clarification.

You should note that were not a "standard dress" for sailors of this period, particularly between the RN and USN. Consequently, both country's sailors were largely indistinguishable. The officers dress was slightly different.

Thanks for the great information folks!

IronDuke – Do the Knuckleduster, Redoubt, and particularly the Old Glory sailors look really small in comparison to the Brigade Games miniatures range?

If I have them on the same small cutter ship, will there be a noticeable difference?

I can not answer the question about Redoubt, but both Old Glory and Knuckleduster will match with the Brigade Games miniatures.

As per above and Redoubt; they will mix nicely within the same crew.

Doesn't Brigade Games have the old Victrix Marine spure sets? So you can take the standard plastic box set and ad the metal heads?

I know you're not short of officers but this Admiral Windbigler figure makes a smashing Jack Aubrey:

And for something completely different yet often overlooked, Spanish officers among others:

Also some crew in the rigging and boat crew with more to follow in the range.
