Howdy. If you're a fan of old Metagaming microgames, like I am (well, many of them, not all, there were SOME groaners, especially late in their history), you might want to check out Olympica as an Epub in the DR library. I had an involuntary snow day yesterday so spent a little time making an epub version. OLYMPICA is a very good source for a miniatures game, as I mention in the post, so it is somewhat applicable. There are links to my Olympica miniatures conversion, too

Thanks for the time and interest. Link here: link

Thanks guy. Guess it says something about one's age when you can remember playing with bits of paper and cardboard and thought it was hi-tech (smile).

Building a complete miniatures game of OGRE in 1/600 right now for my grandson. Think it will go well.

I used to love the Microgames. Olympica was a real favourite, along with Warp War and Ice War. I found your miniature take on Olympica fascinating (love the look!).

It's a funny coincidence you posted this, because just a few weeks ago I was feeling the tug of doing Ice War with miniatures. Elhiem used to have some cool looking troops in 20mm wearing gas masks and bulky clothing that could stand in for the Soviets, and they even had a pack or two of US arctic troops that could give a start to the defenders. I can't find the figures on their new website, but I assume they still have them. Then again, maybe I should look into doing Oly! Thank you for posting this! I hope you have more snowed-in days if this is the sort of thing you get up to…

Dan: please take pictures when you finish that project, I'd love to see it. I've contemplated doing something slightly lower tech with Heroscape and OGRE minis.

Daryl: I could see doing ICE WAR with miniatures, really, really easily. That's a great idea.

Artifact was my first foray into game design. Thinking about brining it back as a straight lunar war game without the "gadgets" the editor wanted.

They were great games. I played Olympica day after day. Ice War generated the first article I wrote for Space Gamer using ideas I'd learned in operations research classes in grad school. Good times.

Glenn:

I've often considered doing a Lunar War game based on ARTIFACT and using plastic spacemen.

Which game was the one that had space battles all taking place inside of some ginormous god-being?

"Which game was the one that had space battles all taking place inside of some ginormous god-being?"

That would be Holy War, which was based off the combat system used in another Metagaming title, Godsfire.

Also, in the category of useless trivia, our esteemed editor designed a game or two for them as well.

Which games were those?

Hot Spot and One World are two I know of.
As I recall we thought One World was pretty cool till we discovered its resolution system was basically rock/paper/scissors.

I have most of the Metagames. At least the SciFi ones. Robert
