Is it possible to play AoF solo? I think not, but thought I'd ask to be sure. Thank you.

I can't remember the exact thread, but I recall the creator basically saying, "no" to that question earlier.

I've read through the rules a bunch of times now, but haven't played. You would need to come up with a pretty sophisticated AI to pull off solo play.

I would say no. The way the bidding system for priority points works would make solo play pretty difficult.

Someone did tell me they played the game solo by bidding for one side, walking away from the game for the afternoon, and coming back to bid for the other side (having largely forgotten in the ensuing hours what he bid for the opponent's behalf). He said this worked for him, but no doubt it took a long time to play! Personally, I don't think it's well-suited to solo play.

I think you would need to write up several bidding strategies for one side. Write down the bidding for "your" side, and then roll a die to see what strategy the other side is using that turn.

You would need to be flexible – if the "other" side loses a division it should be dropped from their possible strategies.

I'm going to try the game solo in the next couple of games to get the mechanisms down before introducing it to the crew. I'll make three different point allotments for both sides and randomly determine which one gets used. That should make it work out interesting.
