I'd like to hear from those in the know. lol My understanding horse artillery was not a common item during the AWI. The smaller guns were hauled around by the crews & Matrosses. The larger guns were hauled either by wagons or limber/carts shown above. But once they were deployed the limber/carts withdrew to a safer location. It was not until the Napoleonic Wars and the ACW that Horse Artillery came into its own??

Really interested in reading everyones view on this.
Thanky

Iron wolf. It's just a photo. If I'd have placed the limbers further back then if have needed to change the lens :-)

No. AWI artillery did not act as horse artillery.

Cheers

Gnu2000,
I hope my original question did not come across as a question of your miniatures?? You clearly posted this was an artillery park not an egagement.

A friend and I were painting up some 15mm AWI. I took a break to check TMP and saw your post. I was pointing out to him your artillery crews with round hats. That maybe we needed to paint up some like yours. My friend then pointed out I do not have any limbers like you have in the photo. My friend being a big ACW fan and gamer questioned this. I told him from my readings the AWI did not really have horse artillery at that time. this conversation lead to my post above. My Apologies if my post came across wrong. As I thought your miniatures looked outstanding. Even though in most games wagons, limbers and such are not needed. I like to have a few on the table to show in reality they were important.

No, it was just an unexpected view!

These are the first AWI limbers I've bothered to paint and really are just for meeting engagements where the artillery begins off table and for scenarios where limbered artillery form some kind of moving objective.

There are times when the artillery need to be moved on the battlefield and will usually be manhandled, however the possibility of using limbers can't be completely ruled out if the guns find themselves in a quiet sector.

Cheers
