I got my new Dad's Army figures last Thursday, took just over a week from ordering. These are really nice figures. Of course there is Good news but also some baddish news with them. Here is the site for the set.

I have all the Home Guard I can use from the old Foundry figures. These are quite nice. However, for my VBCW collection I wanted the civilian dress figures. These looked quite good for making some militia. Here is a picture of the group

For VBCW action I wanted troops with fire arms. Most of these are good for simple conversions. I used rifles from the Warlord BEF sprue to keep the scale constant. Note that some poses do not led themselves to changes, arms tight to side. I really mangled Hodges as I tried to give him a pistol in left hand. I am hoping that painting will cover up all the flaws. Here are the figures ready for priming. I will post the finished version when in hand.

picture

Second from right has a tommy gun, pointed upward. Second from left has the nice Company B Madsen LMG.

Hodges, left end, will be the second in command. The verger, second from left will be the fighting chaplain for this Anglican League militia platoon. Warden, third from left is ammo carrier for the LMG.

The military version of all the figures are in good scale with the Foundry figs so will blend in. Foundry are the painted ones.

So with all the positive aspects, what was negative? First they all come with Slotta Bases. Why? None of the other Warlord figures I have are so based. I cut off the bar on the bottom and had to use 2 part epoxy to attach the figures to my standard bases. The silver lining there might be that it helps the figures stay in good height relation to other figs with bases. Secondly, all the bayonets came as fish hooks, and the tommy gun barrel was bent 90 degrees. Very bad packing. Luckily the metal is soft so I could bend back, and then give a squirt of superglue to strengthen the metal. It would have been nice if all the civilians had one arm posed away from body to allow for easier conversion. Notice all the great heads, with the variety of hats. What the inter war era gamers need is a sprue of civilian heads. I for one would love to have a sprue with each head in the set.

One last little gripe, the tommy gunner figure, in military version, has a great drum tommy gun but no extra drums on his belt.

I think you are being a bit unfair with your last gripe about the tommy gunner!

The set is supposed to represent the characters in "Dad's Army". They didn't have any extra drums in the TV series either, so the figure IS accurate!

Sorry, I never saw the series. Can you give us a link showing the actual character in the series without extra ammo?

Here you go. The platoon all had the same kit and all had rifles. They were issued with one tommy gun which Private Pike begged to have. He is the "stupid boy", too young for the regular army, who's mum sends him on parade with a red scarf! He loved movies and wanted the gun because he liked gangster movies. He is only allowed the gun on some occasions….

Great. I see there are links to practically all of the dads Army episodes. I can watch the whole series. I noticed that Pikes ammo pouches are about 6 inches lower than everybody else's. Maybe he puts his ammo drums in the pouches.

As always, Bob, great conversions.
