Looking for a set of skirmish rules, for pitting Soviets vs. Afghans, back in the day (1979+). Seeking platoon to company level forces for the Soviets, and whatever the Afghanis can bring to the table. Not sure many of the recent rules cover this theater (from the Soviet perspective), and would like get double duty from my Cold War forces. Rules for ambushes, helo gunships and air support, Stinger missiles, etc., would be nice, if included too. |

How about Iron Ivan Games' Disposable Heroes. That's what I use to game soviet afghan since my club uses the rules for most skirmishes games from ECW (heavily modified version of their Horse and Musket rules) all the way to moderns, and including WW1 and WW2. You'll need the modern supplement Seek out Close With and Destroy for helo gunships, Stigners and ATGW. link And then there's the free supplement By the knife for Afghans (guerrilla and gov. forces) and soviets. I use Iron Ivan also. Works well for platoon to company. I don't have any more than a couple of vehicles on the table per side. |

I used Iron Ivan Games as well for the period. Lots of fun! Ran a couple of games at Historicon years back with it. Even rules for Hinds if you want to field them. Doc |

This sounds like a job for Force On Force. One of my favourite-ever rules sets. I've done a lot of ISAF in Afghanistan games with FoF and it's ideal for that conflict. |
