Hi There!!

I have just bought the new Blue max game
Does anyone know what size mats and hex sizes would work with 1:72 aircraft models??

Thanks

Lars:-)

I'd suggest trying to match them to the wingspan of your planes, roughly.

Not sure how many hexes are recommended.

a battlemasters map works well.

I would suggest at least a 4" hex. I played it with 1/72nd aircraft and that allowed the larger two-seaters enough room.

There's a new Blue Max game?

5 inch hexes is what most people use. This allows room for both single and two seater aircraft.

I've been playing Canvas Eagles/Blue Max since 1996 using 5 inch hexes with 1/72nd scale models -- this is the only hex size I have seen people use with WWI 1/72nd scale aircraft games. For 1/144th scale people will often use 3 inch hexes.

The BattleMasters' game mat has 5 inch hexes.

hotz mats made mine, I had the fortuitous luck of attending a paint shop one day when they were throwing out some hex tiles that were for Dulux samples, they made great stands!

They are 5 inches wide and about 1/2 inch high

We played our first game tonight – it was great fun:-)
Just the basic rules, it worked ok, but you will need to use the xtra rules for altitude, fuel and ammo to get it to work really good!
I really hope that some campaign rules and xtra planes will come soon !

Lars:-)
