At least they worked!

At the Gunners' Mate "A" School in Great Lakes they had a similar accident in the late 1980's or early 1990's. The building is a large greenhouse with missile launchers and gun mounts installed inside. Someone 'dud jettisoned' a dummy missile off of the Mk.11 GMLS through the glass and into the parking lot.

That has happened before in the US Navy.

There was an "event" in Pearl Harbor in the 60's when someone accidentally fired off a hedgehog pier-side (fortunately with dummy rounds) into the nearby parking lot.

years ago when station at the SUBASENLON I was idally watching on of the sub firing air slugs…which caused a surge of water to rush over the adjacent pier. Unbeknowst to the sub the Admiral and staff was walking down the pier …well next thing ya know the Admiral and staff are arse over teakettle…I would imagine that someone hung for that … but it was roll on the floor laughing moment

Admirals are famous for ignoring warning signs (Do you know who I am?).

Well, it wasn't really a hazard, since it was a styrofoam dummy.

poor writing, those Stingray light torps have a 45kg WARHEAD.

The 'best' one was the Admiral going to the head on a Fast Attack when the Head was closed due to blowing sans (blowing the contents of the sewage system overboard).

Poor Admiral had sewage EVERYWHERE. Under his fingernails, up his nose, under his eyelids…

Mistakes happen, though I still question why someone thought simulated weapons firing pierside when there's a torpedo loaded into the tube was a good idea!

I forgot to mention that the Admiral also had to clean the head BY HIMSELF, as that is the rule for Submariners: Ignore the signs about blowing sans, and YOU have to clean up the mess.

Good to read that rank doesn't have its privileges, in some cases, still.

The Chicago had a similar incident and launched a Tarter missile during morning exercises. Fortunately it was the starboard launcher, and the missile went to sea, if it would have been the port launcher, the missile would have crashed into San Diego.
