Hi, I'm building a Sturm Company and would like to trim all the bases with the correct waffenfarbe color. I believe it is white but for the MG Platoon, Mortar Platoon, and the Heavy Weapons Platoon which color waffenfarbe should be used? Thanks |

All units from the same Regiment will have the same colour Waffenfarbe no matter what type of platoon. LES |

If you mean a Sturm Company from a Pioneer Sturm-Bataillon, the waffenfarbe for all platoons in the battalion would be black. |

Why trim the base if you can paint it on the schlterstück of each soldier??? |
Martin Rapier | 14 Mar 2014 12:06 a.m. PST |
Although of course if it is a sturm company from a jager battalion, it will be green:) Could you be more specific as to what kind of unit this is please? |

Stands a chance of being from the 78th Sturm Div ? link LES |

Why trim the base if you can paint it on the schlterstück of each soldier??? Kinda answered your own question, Rudy. IF he can paint it on the shoulder boards, indeed! |

link He is talking about the 78. Infanterie Div aka 78. Volkssturm Div.. The waffenfabe is white for this unit. Greetings PS: i served in the the succesor of this unit in the Bundeswehr which was the 251 Fallschirmjäger/ special forces untill it was reformed into the KRK / rapid deployment force. Our symbol was the armoured fist of the Landsknecht General Götz von Berlichingen. |

Rudi, tried painting it on schlterstück but it did not turn out well. So decided to paint it on the edge of the base instead. Sorry for not being more specific but did mean the 78th as mentioned in Grey Wolf. Thanks everyone for your replies |

For shoulder boards I paint the whole thing white (or whatever) then paint the inside section of the board field grey (or bottle green, or black) just leaving a tiny trace of waffenfarbe around the edge. As Rudi says, if it is a bog standard infantry company, then white. Attachments of flak, recce, artillery etc will of course use their own colours. |

Martin, tried that method but the results for me weren't that good (my skills are not there yet but will try sometime in the future again). Also the BF minis are not consistent with the shoulder boards and those details seem to meld at times with any straps or just not appear to be there. |

Can I suggest using Martin Rapiers idea, but instead of painting the bit between the waffenfarbe, try using a lining pen or felt tip of the appropriate thickness/colour, and a ruler. |

In the 1941 infantry division each infantry regiment has a company of 37mm ATG, and there is also an AT battalion which will also have 37mm (and maybe some 50mm). My understanding is that the guys manning Pak 36 in the regimental AT companies will have white piping since they're part of an infantry regt., while those manning Pak 36 in the AT battalion will have red piping because they're artillery. Do I have this right? |

Organic regimental pak, flak, pinoeers, etc will have the branch colour of the regiment to which they belong (e.g. white for Grenadier regiments and grass green for Panzer-Grenadier regiments). Pak flak, pioneers, etc will only wear a distinctive branch colour if they are attached from outside the regiment (typically from a divisional pak, flak or pioneer battalion). |
