Just finished a solo game of Fleet Admiral. Received the game yesterday and read the rules today.
Didn't take any photos. I had Avalanche Press' Great War at Sea: Mediterranean on the table already and so used those counters rather than miniatures. No fun taking photos of board game pieces : )
The scenario (self devised), featured KuK Helgoland and Saida confronting RN Dartmouth, and two RM DD's, one a Pilo class, and one a Satori class.
All the the ship data sheets required for this game are available for free download from the Fleet Admiral website.
I started the ships about 18 kyds apart, both sides in line astern, the Allies with Dartmouth leading.
The cruisers started trading salvos as they came into long range. Dartmouth's second salvo resulted in a hit on Saida's prop shaft, slowing her to 10 kts for the rest of the game.
Helgoland pulled out of line to screen Saida and the two forces continued to close.
Dartmouth started taking hits. She lost a 6" gun, then her director, and then a hit to a fuel bunker started a fire. It was looking pretty grim, especially so as no further hits were registered on the Austrian ships.
At this point the two sides were close enough to launch torpedoes at one another, all missing spectacularly, even those aimed at the very slow moving Saida.
Dartmouth was by now suffering from several fired and some flooding.
Saida took another hit to her propshaft. There is really a very slim chance of this happening but it did. She also suffered some flooding.
Both ships managed to get the fires and flooding under control.
Dartmouth then took a rudder hit, curtailing he maneuverability and hit to her boilers rom started another fire.
Meanwhile the Italian destroyers were starting to score hits. One 3" hit struck Saida's magazine causing catastrophic destruction. BANG.
Helgoland turned about to look for survivors and the Allied squadron sailed off over the horizon.
Dartmouth was unable to control the fires in her boiler room and sank some time after the shooting had stopped.
The game played quickly and in a few turns I had the routines down. IT was meant as a learning experience and not much thought was given to tactics, so much as to trying out the gunnery and torpedo rules.
It was lots of fun and look forward to playing more scenarios.
