Your Anglo-Danish figures look great! Last week, I ordered some 30mm Saxons from Spencer Smith Miniatures, and am looking forward to painting them up for Saga. (They haven't arrived yet.) I used to own some 15mm Dark Ages figures years ago, and recall that I really enjoyed working on them. Your figures' shields are especially nice. I'm a tad embarrassed to admit this, but I'm intending to take an easier approach on my own Saxons ceorls. The old Osprey book, "Saxon, Viking and Norman" states that most of the shields of the average Saxon fyrd were plain wood or painted red, a fact which is probably debatable. But I'm going to use this as justification to give my average warriors fairly plain shields; the select fyrd/huscarls will get nicer ones. Thanks for sharing these photos. Your figures are truly inspiring. |

Thx mates for the kind words : ) To Jeigheff. You are totally right about the shields, Myself painting an Drabant miniatures "anglo saxon warband" where the shield of the Fyrd are just red thinking too that it gets them closer to the real thing. Watch the television serie 1066 they might have a different view : ) so yes it is debatable : ) all the best |
