I'm thinking about painting up some Romans after acquiring some of the superb Foundry sculpts. Does anyone have any suggestions for Roman soldiers from other manufacturers which might be compatible?

The Warlord Caesarian minis work well with them, especially the casualty figures.

I've also mixed one or two of the earlier-period Aventine Republican velites in with the unarmoured Foundry Caesarians.

The Wargame factory Caesarians mix with the Foundry guys, and they are very cheap. Not the best figures, but they look great painted up.

The Wargames Factory figs certainly paint up well and fit well together in a formation.

One of our club members has done a fantastic job painting up a set and I am waiting for him to do some basing so I can take some pictures.
Pics from a gaming day which includes some of his army here link
(although theres no close up of his army, as its not quite finished yet – you can see it)
Hes also using Foundry and Aventine. Follow this topic to link to his blog and some close ups of the finished Foundry stuff which is terrific.

We stock the Wargames Factory sets here link at some great prices if you are in the UK/Europe – especially on the deals.

I am also (slowly) building up a unit of the Wargames Factory plastics for a forthcoming campaign at the club, and I think they will work well with the Gripping Beast range (for which I have some painted formations already) and is another range well worth mentioning to suit your purposes

kind regards

Remember the Companion Miniature Caesarians? Gorgeous figures. The best Late Republic figures I've come across. Wonder who has the masters and if they will ever come back.

Can anyone recommend a similar line of metals? Not to be the elephant in the room. . .

I have to say I had my doubts on the Wargames Factory Romans while they were "in the grey" but a friend of mine painted up a sizable army of them and they look superb in their serried ranks on the tabletop.
