Hi Guys I've been experimenting with underlay as a option for creating a terrain matt. See what I've done at my BLOG: link Here are some photos: [URL=http://s293.photobucket.com/user/trailape/media/Terrain%20Ideas/photo2_zps9b103907.jpg.html]

It looks as if it would be very prone to snagging on the unit bases? |

I've heard of people doing this before but always with another ground cloth over the top. I'd be afraid of it breaking down over time, maybe even more than felt does. |

It looks as if it would be very prone to snagging on the unit bases? Looks that way doesn't it,
but so far no issues. |

Never used "underlay" but I do use "underlayment" which is a wood product, sort of a thinner plywood with a veneer on one side. I use it in a sandwich configuration and flat by itself. Apparently the material is designed to go under linoleum – I think. All I know is that it works for me. I have more than one hundred pieces cut out in various shapes awaiting texturing, will do in different styles. |

It looks interesting. And you got it for a good price. What's not to like? |

When I used a blanket for terrain I had endless problems with things snagging on it. I'm surprised underlay doesn't also have that problem. Personally I find it a bit dark for my taste – I'd spray some more greens/buffs/browns on it. |

Good idea – was thinking of getting some of that to go under terrain mat – may well use that instead. 2m x 1.8m for $10 USD at Bunnings ! |
