Hi all, can anyone point me in the direction of a book/s where I can do some research about the Irish voleenteers who fought for the Nationalists during the Spanish civil war. The sort of info I am after is clothing, weapons, numbers that sort of thing. Thanks to all, best wishes…CH.

There is a book on Google books entitled Irish and the Spanish Civil War. It addresses both right and left. From articles I have read O'Duffy wasn't much of a leader and he didn't get along with Franco. The Blueshirts were in only one battle, I think, and didn't make much of a great showing. The book says the Blueshirts were issued WWI German uniforms and carried a terrcio banner of the red Spanish cross on a green background.

Huw R Davies, that is excellent, as one always say's at Christmas "It's just what I wanted" only in this case it's true. The back ground to this request is that I only play one regular opponent and we take it in turns to pick the period we are going to collect for and game, and whoever's turn it is to pick also get's to pick which side he is going to collect. My opponent as been fairly generous in the past, allowing me to be the Union in the civil war, Parliament in the ECW, not the Nazi's in WW2 and the French in the Napoleonic period. However when it came to this he stood firm and said he was going to be the Lefties, I didn't want to be the Facist's but thought well at least if I'm a Irish Facist that won't be too bad. With the help of this book I can be something alot more acceptable, so thanks very much mate, may your dice always role high, best wishes…CH.
