Hi all, We had an excellent turn out at the Devon Wargames Group yesterday and I got a chance to play Hail Caesar for the first time.
If you would like to see a report on the game then just follow the link to the Devon Wargames Group Blog link and if you are interested in my first impressions of the rules then I have posted my thoughts on JJ's Wargames link Jonathan |

Thanks for posting your AAR and commentary on the HC rules. With a little practice and forethought, the full potential of this system can really come to the fore. Cheers, Scott |

Agree – thanks for posting not only a very nice AAR but also your thoughts on the rules We have played our second Hail Caesar game recently – interestingly, Germans versus Romans – the first game was Celts versus Romans; in the first game the Romans tidely crushed the Celts while in the second game the Germans wiped the floor with the Romans One thing with Hail Caesar is that people who have gamed with Warhammer Ancient Battles rules is that Roman legionaires in Hail Caesar are pretty good – but not as invincible as in WAB, especially against warbands. Given that warbands have a more compact front and hit at 9 on the first round of combat (compared to 7 for legionaries) the Roman player has to play a more careful game, make use of supporting lines and try to catch the barbarians out The Roman commander from our game acknowledged he made a few key mistakes – like counting too much on his missile troops and putting his cavalry on a flank with lots of hills and woods, where their mobility counted for naught I do like the Hail Caesar rules – now I have to try them with my Carthaginians! |

Thanks for your comments guys. As you can see, I enjoyed HC and can see why they have proven a popular set to use |
