Congratulations. Can The Editor now give the rest of us a presentation on the perils and pitfalls of offending one's fellow TMPers; how to avoid incurring the wrath of said others; and, explain what the future holds of such high scoring reprobates. 500 stifles ain't no mean feat!! |

I find it pathetic someone would care about stifle counts. |

I find it pathetic someone would care about stifle counts. Be serous. It's a STATISTIC! A RECORD! Records are made to be broken. Such a high count has to be inflated by drive by stiflers or by accounts whose sole purpose is to stifle. Is it a waste of time? Sure, but at least they are not out in the streets bothering little old ladies or molesting cattle. Anyone who reads anything into it needs to go and paint some grenadiers and stop worrying about it. Having said that, I support every single aspect of TMP stifles. If they make one person happy, then they are enjoying their TMP experience. And if they make one person so mad he spits tacks, why then that is a good thing too. It amuses the rest of us, hainna? I only have 231. I dropped 5 since the last time I checked. Or did I gain 5? Idunno, I never wrote it down. The more people hate stifles, the more I dig in my heels in supporting them. Why? It amuses me and I have nothing better to do. |
darthfozzywig | 08 Mar 2014 10:16 a.m. PST |
500 stifles? That means, what, maybe 100 actual humans have stifled someone? Guess that's an achievement of some sort. |
Silent Pool | 08 Mar 2014 10:23 a.m. PST |
Naw. What it means is that The Haters set out to make one person the top of that pile and they have now achieved it. Considering all the unpleasantness that has been circulating about that person I find it very sad that he has to find himself top of the blessed Stifle Table – for what real purpose? Another stick to beat the poor guy. What next? the 1,000 most stifled? Bill, as a man of reason
Keep your stifle option – it works for all of us – but ditch the Table. |
Bashytubits | 08 Mar 2014 10:34 a.m. PST |
Pffft, stifles smyfles, some people love it and others hate it. Just the mere mention gets you some. I don't have to even post and my count sometimes goes up. I just like a little humor and my comments are rather innocuous, I thought, but stiflers gotta stifle. |
79thPA | 08 Mar 2014 11:01 a.m. PST |
The fascination or fixation with stifles is beyond me. |
whill4 | 08 Mar 2014 11:11 a.m. PST |
I think it would be funny if the Editor undid all 500 stifles. |
KTravlos | 08 Mar 2014 11:20 a.m. PST |
instead of worrying about bloody stifles, paint some plastic or lead. I know you have mountains waiting to be conquered! |
Silent Pool | 08 Mar 2014 11:28 a.m. PST |
I think it would be funny if the Editor undid all 500 stifles Now that would amuse me. Good idea. You reach 500 and then
nothingness. Start again time. KTravlos, yes I have piles! The miniatures are drying; I'm choking on solvents; and, I got time on my hands. Plus, the stifle count is important because it is so unimportant. |

Well congrats to Tango who has 502. I used to be No.1 back in the day, but no jealously from me, we all have to have our day in the sun. And my current score of 358 stifles is no mean feat – perhaps with some serious training and new coach I could be a contender again! Actually I suspect with the Waterloo 1815 200 anniversary on the horizon, and my tendency to want to explode some of the myths and claptrap written on here about the battle I might well be in with a chance! |

Sparker,As a former No1, what do you think of the Stifle Table? Seriously? I think the whole stifling business is really a little sad. You think someone's post is a load of bull? Get over it and move on! But celebrating getting stifles as a bit of fun is probably the best way to show those who can't cope with contrary opinions how daft their actions are
|
Der Alte Fritz | 09 Mar 2014 7:04 a.m. PST |
As long as there is a public record of how many stifles a person has, there should also be a public record of how many stifles a person has doled out to others. Fair is fair, after all. Better yet, make each person's stifle list public. That would make things interesting around here. Can we have a poll on this? |
jameshammyhamilton | 09 Mar 2014 7:48 a.m. PST |
Is it possible to work out which posts attracted a stifle? I used this site for several year before I even knew they existed and I still don't really know what they are. I have a few so presumably I have wound some people up but it would be interesting to know who and with which posts. |

I only have 231. I dropped 5 since the last time I checked. Or did I gain 5? Idunno, I never wrote it down I wrote it down. It's a large part of my life (as TMP 5th Editor or more correctly assistant to the TMP 4th Editor). Your highest is 231. You spent far too long around 213 but then rose sharply , apparently, for your support of another TMPer. My services don't come cheap but I help out when I can. |

HeyJoe, Congratulations! You've set us all quite a challenge. If I ever get round to making a concerted effort I think I might beat your record one day! However, if my mate Gazzola gets invited back somehow he'll probably eclipse all of us. Sparker,
Actually I suspect with the Waterloo 1815 200 anniversary on the horizon, and my tendency to want to explode some of the myths and claptrap written on here about the battle I might well be in with a chance! Indeed. Next year will probably see a rise in "Wellington Vs Napoleon" threads, which means the stifle count for you, me and some of the other chaps will sky-rocket! |

TelesticWarrior | 10 Mar 2014 7:09 a.m. PST |
alien, I don't think its a fascination for most people, just a little bit of extra trivia that adds a little to the TMP experience. |

Some of you people need to move our of your mom's basement and get a girlfriend or something Well, I've done all three as you mentioned, and yet me getting a 'something' – the great amusement and enlightenment from discussing the Stifle Table on TMP – doesn't seem to satisfy you. Really, some people are never happy. |

I wonder if when someone got to a certain number of stifles their account was disabled for a limited time people would be so keen to get stifles! I agree with Alte Fritz that stifle lists should be made public otherwise what is the point of them? |
John the OFM | 15 Mar 2014 5:21 a.m. PST |
No. The number of stifles you get is irrelevant to how obnoxious you are. "It is known" that there are accounts set up whose sole purpose is to stifle other accounts. Why punish the target? |
Robert Kennedy | 15 Mar 2014 10:03 a.m. PST |
"I agree with Alte Fritz that stifle lists should be made public otherwise what is the point of them?" And what would the purpose be of making them public serve? The purpose for Stifles for most is not to punish someone but to no longer have to read their posts. The Stifle count should just not be shown at all. I would think IMO one problem with it being public would be that people's friends and supporters or Stiflees creating multiple accounts would start adding to someone's Stifle count because they can see who has Stifled them. The Stifle count should just be hidden. Then there would no longer be a reason for these kind of posts. |
Dagorlad | 25 Mar 2014 5:06 a.m. PST |
"It is known" that there are accounts set up whose sole purpose is to stifle other accounts. I really don't understand that. Why create a separate account to stifle someone, when you aren't going to actually use that account for any other purpose? I must be missing something. |
ViscountEric | 25 Mar 2014 6:23 a.m. PST |
It amuses the rest of us, hainna? If I hadn't had my coffe yet, I would want to stifle you a a couple two tree times, John. |

There was a bar in Palma del Mallorca Spain called Texas Jacks – just saying
. As to stifles – non conta un pastina! al Diavolo per bacco! |
Ethanjt21 | 26 Mar 2014 7:48 a.m. PST |
I really don't understand that. Why create a separate account to stifle someone, when you aren't going to actually use that account for any other purpose? I must be missing something. Because they are a sad individual who cannot cope with the possibility of an opinion separate from their own. in their blind fury at being proven a dolt, they make an account to add stifles to their nemesis. Thus, when people are looking at their nemesis' page, they think, "Oh dear, that man has quite the stifle count, he must be mean" Thus gaining them some form of pathetic righteousness at having slighted their internet foe. |
Silent Pool | 26 Mar 2014 10:38 a.m. PST |
I reckon that if the Dear Editor produced a list of those TMPers who had not been stifled that
guess what?
the list would soon be rendered worthless. It's all a game. "Can non-members stifle members?", he was heard to think. |
