Hi guys,

I've put up a new video of the new Codex Imperial Knights from GW for Warhammer 40k.

Please take a look here: –

Thanks!

So around $46 USD for a book with lots of petty pictures. Then add in the overprice model and GW has scammed you out of around $200. USD

I will pass.

But just think, in a year or so, your $46 USD book is out of date and you have to buy a $56 USD dollar book to find out which of your $200 USD worth of miniatures are out of date.

Mithmee – silly man, you cannot field ONE knight as an army! You have to have to buy at least 3? 5? depending on the points level of the game.

And Todd636, you have that just a tad out of sequence…

You are forgetting you have to add spending for the basic rulebook to play (currently $75. USD)

And THAT will be revised and need to buy again (think maybe $96 USD?) before that $46 USD book goes out of date and needs replacing.

But by then, the knights themselves will have new sculpts and the 3? 5? you bought will not be "competitive" unless you buy all new ones.

Built-in obsolescence is the name of the marketing game, fellas!!

If I wanted to fight with them I would just get out my 40K Epic Titans.

Have quite a few and the total cost for them was less than one of these knights.

Hell I could just get out my Imperial Knights from 40k Epic.

I'm contemplating testing my theory that one could sell a pewter figure of the size at a competive price.

It'll be a bit crude, I'm not the world's greatest sculptor but I'm just wondering how close I can come because the model's not all that huge and $170 USD is.

Still, conceptually, the idea of a highly detailed mecha game in 28 mm appeals to me. I ran exactly one session of a TL-9 GURPS Vehicles game. Machineguns seemed a bit over powered until I realized that I'd dropped a zero on the anti tank missiles, it was 840 dice with armor divided by ten, not 84 dice.

Sigh, I wish they'd hurry up on the new GURPS Vehicles book. Fourth edition fixes so much and then drops the ball at the critical point.

Let's be honest here, 40k isn't cheap, GW isn't a nice company, but it isn't as bad as described.

40k is currently on a 4 year cycle.
Many folks actually don't buy a hardcover rulebook anymore, they buy a small (but complete) rulebook at $20 USD-$25 every four years.

A Codex has a 4-8 year cycle.
The price of the Codexes went from $33 USD to $50 USD because they went full color, hardcover. No price raise since. The Knight Codex is only $41. USD The Knight model is 'only' $140. USD The last time I paid full price for anything was the original Apocalypse release day…

Old models are generally not obsolete, your 25 year old Space Marines or Imperial Guard will be perfectly playable on the table. Even more so then a few years ago, GW has been very good with giving us more options, way to many options! Heck, a lot of the old models might even fetch you a pretty penny compared to what the new models cost.

I would be perfectly happy to build my forces with 25 year old plastic beaky Marines if they weren't so expensive these days (my allowance was only ever good enough for one box then)…

Well, you DID forget about the Imperial Knight Companion book, which costs some 45 GBP instead of the 25 GBP for the codex. Not containing rules it at least has the benefit of not going obsolete…

That said, I do like the model a lot. I am just unwilling to pay its price…

I just bought the Codex and three Knights for my Primary Detachment. At under $450 USD it's money well spent.

Other than 40K I only play Bolt Action WWII so I can afford it.

"40k is currently on a 4 year cycle."

"A Codex has a 4-8 year cycle."

Like I said, "built-in obsolescence."

I've got copious IG, Tau, Ork and CSM models, recently bought a Daemons boxed set and my son has copious 'nids, so… not a, "hater," just pointing out what I see.
