Hi I've just acquired some underlay (that thick material placed carpets and often used by removalist to cover furniture) and I believe some have used it to make a terrain table cover. My question is how is it 'coloured'? The stuff I have is a grey colour and obviously I'd want it a mix of Green / earthy brown etc. Any advice would be appreciated. |

My mate used underaly. Though he never coloured the underlay itself, but used a cloth over the top of it: link |

Most underlay I'm familiar with goes very 'bitty' when rubbed. As you'll be sliding arms and figures over it you might have the same problem. I would go with a cloth over it as well. You could test a bit with some household emulsion to see if that seals it. I imagine it would soak in paint pretty fast though. |

Yes my mate Mark is an expert in providing fantastic ground cover using a terrain cloth hes prepared from teddy bear fur, but he always puts it over an inch think layer of underlay over foam blocks to represent undulations and ridges etc. I've not hear of people using underlay directly. This is the effect he gets by using underlay in this way:

I use the same system, removalist blankets, with foam hills underneath then either calico or teddy bear fur. 1 calico coloured with dye, olive green and also a khaki I use for desert. the teddy bear fur is airbrushed, yet to be finished, but by far the most impressive cheers Matt |

Hi Guys I've been experimenting with underlay as a option for creating a terrain matt. See what I've done at my BLOG: link Here are some photos: [URL=http://s293.photobucket.com/user/trailape/media/Terrain%20Ideas/photo2_zps9b103907.jpg.html]
