So my friend and I played the Eggmuhl, left flank scenario today. It was using my 6mm set up (using SYW figures as I had them handy, and don't own any Napoleonic Austrians).

The game was a good one ending in an Austrian Victory.

The French opened with an attack on the left and then on the right, causing casualties but no retreats. The Austrians bided their time to see the French attack unfold.

The French made their major push first on the left, advancing several infantry units and engaging in melee all along the line. They did a lot of damage, but their dice failed them and they scored no retreats. As a result the Austrians go to battle back, causing hits, but more importantly keeping hold of the three town objectives.

The next attack on the right was easily repelled. Sensing weakness the Austrians launched a cavalry charge of 3 brigades which was soundly defeated. The French countered with a 4 brigade charge of their own. This scattered the Austrian cavalry. However a furious bombardment by the Austrians did good execution destroying a light infantry brigade and two cavalry brigades.

Finally on the right an Austrian advance routed two more French line units. The victory was secured with one last series fo deadly volleys up and down the line, giving the Austrians their 9th battle flag, having surrendered only 4.

That said, the French consistently failed to achieve retreats, yielding greater casualties. At the end a good many Austrian units had only 1 or 2 blocks left…

Meanwhile, on the right flank of the battlefield…

Thanks for the report! Historical Eggmuhl is tough for the Austrians to win, as the eventual press of numbers becomes overwhelming. I imagine the scenario is based upon the early fighting.
