I was down to visit my younest daughter who is an Officer stationed at Fort Hood two years ago. My 9 year old grandson William and his mom were with us for the visit. One of the days while we were down there we were to drive down to visit the Alamo. My daughter had my grandson watch the movie and go on line to research the reason why the Alamo was so important to the history of Texas, prior to our trip. So the day came for us to go down to see it, and we stopped to gas up prior to leaving. William came inside the gas station with me, and when the older woman (a native Texican) behind the counter realized we were on vacation see asked what we were doing that day. William told her we were going to see the Alamo. And than receited from memory why the Alamo was important to the history of Texas. giving dates, details of the battle, and the combatants. The woman was so moved by this, she gave him a free candy bar, and stated that he knew more than 90% of the people who currently reside in the state. |
