I am looking to get back into ancients
.I used to play DBM back in the late 90's and had a 15mm Seleucid Army that I painted based on Essex miniatures. At the time I thought they looked incredibly nice but time continues as does peoples artistic abilities. So, I am trying to find the best quality manufacturer for 15mm Seleucids and $$ is not really a factor. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated. I also don't mind if they are 18mm as I had an Austrian Napoleonic army of BH and AB miniatures that was taller than my opponents minifigs
.and that is they way it should be!! |

Xyston. They aren't cheap, but you get what you pay for. |

thanks, I am looking over them now but I don't see any thorakites
..they were my favorite. Xyston figures are magnificent though. |

Yes, I'd say Xyston too, from what I've seen. The Magister Militum elephants are pretty spectacular though if you are happy combining ranges. |

I don't mind combining at all. Off to check out MM! |

For Thorakites, you could just about have used the imitation legionaries (20259) if they didn't have swords in hand. |
Arch Duke of Nothing | 05 Mar 2014 6:51 p.m. PST |
Hmm, good idea. I could replace the swords with spears, if the hands are big enough. |
Temporary like Achilles | 05 Mar 2014 7:15 p.m. PST |
But you would have swordless scabbards though unless you got really creative with the off-cut sword handles! |
Arch Duke of Nothing | 05 Mar 2014 7:43 p.m. PST |
I suppose I could do that
Another question. I just saw a battle report with the Seleucids and there was a unit of Hypaspists that are equipped like hoplites!! Is that right? I was always attracted to the Seleucids because of all their troop types, the only one I thought was missing were hoplites but that seems to no longer be true, or is that not right? |

Westwind had their kickstarter War & Empire, included some great looking sculpts, and included Seleucids. I would guess they are smaller than Xyston however. |

I have wargaming with a Seeucid/Successor armies for years. My Army is mostly Museum Minatures a little small by to days standareds, but it has served me well over the years. I am slowy(very slowly) replacing with Xyston. I also have sum nice pike and imitation legionaries from a manufacture called "X Legion" with nice embossed shields. Hypaspist and how they where equipped ? Now there is can of worms! Most rules and army list allow you to field them as ether with spear(LTS) or pike. Good luck with your project. |

Forged in Battle were doing the kickstarter. They advised that their figures were going to be compatible with both Essex and Xyston. Having seen some of the sculpts for their other armies in that range I would be inclined to wait for another 3-4 months for their release. |

War and Empire miniatures line is what Redcurrant means. link The miniatures are quite nice. Scroll to near the bottom of the page and you can see pictures of some of the figures including some Hellenistic Phalangites. |

I use Donnington and Old Glory. Donnington can be a little blocky but I like their character. |

I couldn't find X legion with google
Will check out the others, thanks. |

I picked up my X legion stuff at shows about 6 or 7 years ago (or more). I also have tried to find them no luck, They may well have gone out of business, Sorry about that |

For thorakites you could use Freikorps from QRF: link They do a not dissimilar thureophoroi pack too (just minus the mail). Both paint up well. Good size match for Magister Militum but a bit smaller than Xyston (no surprise there of course
) Phil PS – the photos I saw of the Westwind 15mms figures indicate they are likely to be small 15mm and not Xyston size, but certainly the exapmle sculpts looked nice |

Xyston do some great sculpts, but often the cavalry suffer from the horses being too thin and the riders too wide and too big. Donnington have some rather ordinary and some rather brilliant figures in their original range Donnington will fit better wirh War and Empure than Xyston. |

X Legion are OOP, the material was returned to the sculptor (Steve Saleh)? They used to be manufactured by Gladiator IIRC. |

I have never seen a Xyston figure that had not overdone the Steroids. It would be impossible to produce a 15mm miniature range "compatible" with Xyston and Essex, they are just too different. If you can't mix them in the same warband, they are not "compatible". Another KS I regret missing, they do look like nice sculpts. |

The Xth Legion line I think by Shaleh were excellent. I can't recall if these are them. If not I have a bunch of these for Seleucids and they have many specialty packs specifically for Seleucids: link |
