I've just updated my blog with pictures of the first 10 castings of the Ancient Indians I'm hopefully going to be using for the War & Conquest December gaming day at The Gravesend Wargames Club in the UK. Might be of interest for anyone that's ever thought about drop moulding! warandconquest.blogspot.co.uk Dave |

Thumbs up! Very nice sculpt and the dollies look fantastic. Is it more economic DIY the moulds than using a mould maker's services? |

It's not so much the economy of doing it yourself, but rather the control over the whole process. The waiting time to get bits back from mould makers can be up to a few weeks at a time, depending on how busy they are of course. The main reason I've drop moulded these figures though is that they're intended for my own use for War & Conquest games – nothing more. I've tried that selling lark and just can't seem to keep on track with it all!! :-) |

Looking good. Can I ask if you use a release agent between the figure and the chavant and the chavant and the rubber? My initial experiments with this weren't too successful. Mike |

Hi Mike, I use the spray on release agent Formula 5 by Ambersil. I've found that the most important part of the process of making the mould is leaving the rubber to harden properly before attempting to part the two halves or cast from the finished mould. Even with the catalyst added to the rubber, I still leave it at least 8 – 10 hours in a warm room to cure before I attempt to do anything more with it. It needs to feel like a solid block to work well. Dave |

Thanks Dave. I may try drop moulding for dollies and weapons. |

I'm no expert, but if there's anything I can help with, feel free to drop me a line. Dave |
