Does any miniature company do a French or British for that matter, field forge in 6mm? |

I presume the bellows must actually work? Could it not be relatively easily scratch built at that scale? Most stupid question of the lot now, I admit. I imagine 6mm is only for wargamers, not diorama builders or modellers. What is the role of a field forge in a wargame? Does it affect horses' morale score, if they are not immediately shod after losing a shoe? Apologies. I am being a bit provocative I know
indulge me! May you find what you seek grasshopper

"6mm is only for wargamers" "a bit provocative I know" thats one way of putting it though I could suggest several other ways of describing it :o). Its a question of imagination and skill deadhead, some have it some don't. Wargamers of course don't like their stuff to look nice
.
green beanie can supply you with a couple if you need. L |

Leon, Beautiful! I have seen your work on line and I know the pic here is but part of a series of equally good photos. I am currently working on a diorama of the Prussians on the road to Plancenoit and I am wondering if 28mm is really the right scale to capture what I want to show. I confess I still thought 6mm was mainly a wargamer's scale. That is not to say that the figures cannot be finished to an incredible standard and then, en masse, look terrific. Being provocative is what keeps these message threads going. Now if I had insulted Napoleon, especially about his height, that would have got them all going! |

deadhead, Well I always have a problem with 28mm stuff on a games table the size seems out of kilter with the area of the table to my eyes and tend towards the 'toy soldier' look, which though very attractive is not to my tastes. If I was making a diorama for Napoleonics these days Id probably go for 15/18mm, some lovely figures around and they big enough to appeal to the non specialist but small enough to get some scale perspective in a reasonable area. If I was trying something mega, like Waterloo squares being charged then Id go down to 10mm or 6mm myself. But its all a matter of personal tastes and what seems 'right' to your eyes. Just dont fall into the trap of thinking if it aint 28mm then its not a 'proper' figure there are great figures around in all scales. And just as an aside Napoleon was of average height for his period lol L |

I promise you, I was only joking about Napoleon's height! I have watched the discussions here about French vs English measures of length, about contemporary Frenchmen's heights anyway and (most importantly) whether any of it matters. Size does not matter
. The very reason I saw your website stuff is exactly what you said
..and I loved it. I am working on the diorama of the Prussian march on Plancenoit and
somehow
it just does not work in 28mm. My base is filled with a single gun and six horse limber stuck in mud around Lasne. There is little room for all the infantry I wanted to show
..how do I fit in Papa Blucher? Calpe figures are apparently in the post today. Where will they go? "Proper figures". How right you are. Some years ago it struck me that 15/18mm figures are generally far less Hobbit like and just slimmer than 28mm. The skill in painting (and casting) 6mm figs is amazing, but I still say my comment was more how they are actually used than their potential. Are sales nor far more to wargamers than modellers, at this scale? If so, why do you need a field forge? If Green Beanie is "just" modelling, brilliant, I want to hear more. Somewhere in the attic I have an Allied airborne unit in this scale (Wacos, Horsas, Hamilcars, Daks etc etc) plus the Waffen SS unit they dropped into. I have LCT Mk III and IVs, LSTs, LCAs, LCVPs, LCI and LCIs, LCRs, LCFs, all for amphibious assault
..most scratch built. I do appreciate smaller scales and really must get the microscope to zoom in even more (one advantage of my job, is the access to optics
but it just shows what a mess you have made!) Anyway. This reply gets the message back to the top again! Keep up the great work. |
