I recently bought some of the rather lovely Crusader Normans while they were on a special offer at North Star. I've ordered some of the LBMS shield transfers and they are winging their way to me, as I can't paint freehand for toffee! Now, while just undercoating the little chaps, it has dawned upon me that some of the rimmed shields have studs. So, do most of you carve these studs off to allow the transfers to sit flush with the shield, or cut holes in the transfers (Gosh, I hope not!) or apply over the top and hope others don't notice? |

I have some in 15mm that I did years ago. From what I recall the LBMS have an area set up, i.e. blank, to cut holes out. |

I think Bindon is referring not to the boss (which the LBMS transfers do accommodate) but to four smaller studs around it on the Norman shields. I cut these off before applying the transfers. It didn't take too long to do and I think improved the way the transfer went on. However if I remember correctly this shield – the one with the studs – is slightly larger than the rimmed one without, so you will end up painting a little extra around the edges to fill in the gap between transfer and rim. |

Thanks Paul. I'll trim them now, before I start painting
