I've been wanting to work my 75mm M3's into a scenario for a while, coupled with an urge to build an island scenario board. So last Monday we got our teeth into a generic Pacific island scenario, set sometime in 1943. The rules used were, as always, Battlefront WWII and the game was played with 20mm figures on a 6' X 4' board. The Marines' objective was to execute a successful amphibious landing and fight their way inland to seize a Japanese airstrip. We allowed 12 turns for this, a bit short as it turned out, so the game was extended to 16 before it was felt that it had run its course. The full AAR with pics can be found here: link

Lovely table and figures! I recognized most but the US mortars were unfamiliar. Entertaining after action report too – just goes to show phalanxes of Tigers are not always required

Monophagos, The 81mm mortars crews were repurposed figures, three from the Pegasus Rangers set and one from the Esci US Infantry. So not actually Marines, but they work from a distance! Bill |

Great report as always! What size bases are your using for your 20mm figs for Battlefront WWII? I have sabots for Fireball Forward that I think might work for Battlefront [Was one of my favorite rule sets before I had to off-load all my 15mm figs]. The ambush shot is very cinematic! |

Brucka, Base sizes are those recommended for 20mm in Battlefront WWII. 1.25" wide X 1" deep. |

Sorry, last question – do you follow the range suggestions too? (X 1.5). |

Brilliant stuff as always Bill! Great job with creating the island too. Exciting finish to the AAR was the icing on the cake |

Thanks, all. Brucka, yes, we increase ranges as well, size up the tables, etc. Simply use rulers marked off at 1.5" increments, so its pretty simple. BF WWII comes with templates for 20mm. |

your table did an awesome job if having that over grown can't see anything cramped look and feeling you have in a fight in the jungle or real woods. Very nicely done, I would live to play your game. |

Wow, very nicely done!
Can I ask what colors you used on the Marine's uniform and the Japanese? Thanks, John |
Bill Slavin | 03 Mar 2014 7:43 a.m. PST |
Thanks, John. I won't be much help with the Marine uniform colours as they were mixed up using some cheap dollar store paints. For the japanese my base was Panzer Dunkelgelb 1943 by Model Master. |
