Just curious to see if anyone has info on the TO&E for a Bundeswehr PanzerGrenadier Kompanie, for Heerstruktur 2 and 3, e.g. roughly 1960s – 1970s/early 1980s?

I'm most interested in the number of men, number of vehicles and types, weapons, etc. at the platoon level, but company level would be nice too, including any support or HQ units.

I've read they rode in 1.5 ton Unimogs, but no numbers were provided.

Also, interested in Gebirgjaeger too, as above, if it isn't too much trouble, or there is a good website for me to view the info on-line.

Did you try the Yahoo TO+E group? I'd be willing to be they have it.

Good idea.

I'll check, but last time I was there they didn't have much info on Bundeswehr TO&Es.

We have three groups in the TO&E group. Modern-TOEs is the storage location for the post WW2 stuff.

Mako, what minis are you thinking of using?

Mako1101 Mar 2014 3:34 a.m. PST

Leaning towards 15mm right now, Uesugi, at least for smaller, skirmish battles.

Perhaps 6mm for larger battles.

I'd love to do 12mm, but the minis availability is a little limited in some categories, in 1/144th scale, and with international shipping costs, they run as much, or more as some stuff I can get here in the USA, in 1/100th scale.

No joy on the TO&E Yahoo Group, sadly.

They've got the current, and/or late 20th Century Jaeger unit, but nothing for the earlier periods, e.g. Heerstruktur 1 – 3, or even 4.

I did see some Bundeswehr references for Heer 5 and 6 though.

I'd be fine with even a rough approximation, e.g. 3 – 4 squads per platoon (probably 3, plus a heavy weapons squad?), number of men in the squads – probably around ten for the trucks, but could be 11 or 12 I guess, general overview of weapons (mainly G3s, with 1 – 2 MG1s per squad, etc.).

Would like to know if there are number differences between the squads in the PzGren Motor Rifle platoons/companies, and the Jaeger units (are the Jaegers really Gebirgsjaegers, or are they different, e.g. light infantry vs. mountain troops)?

Might be interesting to know about their "Home Guard" as well. Can't recall the term now, but seem to recall "Territorials" being mentioned. Not sure if they have transport, or are primarily foot units.

I'd also like to know if the "Territorials" were relegated to defending their local, home turf, or if they were expected to be deployed to other areas of West Germany, as needed?

Mako, send a PM to Mark Davies. He's the guru with Cold War TO&E's

HistoryPhD04 Mar 2014 7:27 p.m. PST

Mako, it's not "Territorials". It's "Heimatschütz"

Micro mark army lists on wargames vault. they have it and it will cost you about a dollar US

Found the info.

Looks like 1 x Iltis and 1 x 1.5 ton truck for the HQ, and then 3 platoons of 3 x 1.5 ton trucks for each.

Not 100% sure on the number of men per squad, but guess about 10 – 12, to be similar to the numbers in the M113 equipped squads.
