I think that TMP could be much more useful if the "best" threads could automatically be put at the top of the Boards list of running threads. I will leave how the "best" threads is determined as an exercise for the reader.
The dreaded "LIKE" might come into play. but I hope not. grin

For example…
About once a month, someone asks for the best AWI or FIW figures. We have had a whole bunch of such threads. Perhaps the most comprehensive one should be permanently at the top of the AWI Board.
Likewise, MY thread on getting started in the AWI. "People seem to find it useful," he said humbly. grin
Likewise the frequent requests for books on the AWI.

We can do the same for such obscure and irrelevant periods as Ancients or Napoleonics.

Being my usual humble self, I think my recent thread on making fieldstone walls could prove useful on the Terrain and Scenics Board.

Aren't those (what John is talking about) called "sticky notes" or something like that?

I think that sounds like an excellent idea and ironically I hadn't noticed your fieldstone wall tuturial so im off to check that out…guess that just proves the advantage of highlighting ;)

Or that setup where the active threads stay at the top while inactive ones sink lower. Not that active equals 'best'… but I prefer that as a measure rather than the dreaded 'like' button.

Active threads is different to best threads. Active just orders them be activity (as some forums have their sub boards configured). Best threads is some way of pinning them at the top, ideally user configured like a favourite, or on some forums configured by an admin or moderator.

I would humbly suggest that in the TMP environment, self service might be a better model than lumping it on the admins. In a self service model each user would have a different view, which may not be what John had in mind.

You mean forum "sticky" threads, like other forums that work properly and have moderators have?

Or even for threads to be active so that the most posted, viewed etc remain at the top.

So basically more like other forums with proper software, you know like you and others have resisted.

Yes. Some topics come up reportedly and moving the best threads into a separate "tutorial" section makes a lot of sense.

I like sticky threads myself.

But John that means changing TMP…..and I thought you don't want to change TMP and have it like all the other boards :D

Just japing…not attack meant :)
