Hi,

I joined TMP a couple of days ago and hope this is the most appropriate forum to post this genral request in. I am relatively new to miniature work and I am on the scout for potential employers or clients. I have to thank whoever put together your Directories, very useful indeed for getting company details globally.

I am a CG artist with over 20 years experience in designing and building CG models for Video Games, Illustration, T.V and film. I have been lucky enough to work for the BBC, CBBC, and endemol, as well as Rare, Free Radical design and Rebellion.

I would say I am more comfortable doing hard surface subjects with a view to get organic under my belt this year.

I recently completed my first 3D print project for white dragon Miniatures kickstarter project which is still in the works from what i understand. I am currently at a crossroads regarding whether to pursue Table top gaming work or swot up and get back into videogames. for this reason i am pitching my wares here to see what kind of feedback I can gain and hopefully some useful advice on whats popular, whose making it and more importantly if I could fasibly make a living out of this.

My website lee-ray.com is a bare bones affair at the moment and wont be updated for a while so I will post some examples of what I do here and please feel free to ask any questions or suggest someone who may be interested in employing me on a project.

Thanks for your time.

Lee Ray

TMP is a great resource, especially for historical accuracy and information. Another very useful resource for you may be another site, Frothers Unite. Many of the industry sculpters, painters and casters post on there regularly, including digital sculpters. Be warned however, you will get very honest feedback with no sugar coating. Don't take it personally.

You should take a look at Bethesda Games. They might have an opening for a model maker for their game projects.

I like your work! I can't really help you out or offer work to you at the moment, but perhaps in due time if the next year or two pan out the way I hope they do.

@Jezeger, i have just registered with Frothers Unite so thank you for suggesting that. i know what you mean about historical accuracy issues. i worked on 3 titles for osprey Publishing and had to deal with a fair bit of it. i dont want to shatter anybodys illusions though, myself and a few others working on these books were always amazed to see crystal clear images in the finished title that were never included in the ref pack we were sent initially. Sometimes artistic license did come into play. ;-)

@45thdiv Bethesda games?, as in the videogame developer?. i live in the UK so i dont think I could manage that commute ;-).

I am trying to give videogames a break as well and learn something new but thanks for the suggestion.

@ chaos0xomega

Thank you, I appreciate that drop me an emil and we can exchange contact details. address is on the images above.

@Lee Ray. No commuting needed in today's digital world. As long as you can deliver model files on time you can work anywhere. You could also try the BBC. They have a digital effects department. You have some strong skills that I feel could work in the visual effects world.

@45thdiv thanks, I have actually worked for the BBC and they tend to hire people on temp contracts and even then your chance of getting a foot in the door is very slim, I have tired to get onto Dr.Who on numerous occasions and never got a look in. its very politcal and who you know is king I am afraid.

I live in Nottingham UK, with a family and most VFX houses are based in London. Not a fan of working away from home for the week and only seeing them at weekends, I agree a lot of place will happily outsource but I doubt they will outsource to me here in the UK when India and China will do the job just as well for a fraction of the coost I can afford to do it for. ( race to the bottom) I have looked into it, its not a rosy picture out there no matter how skilled you are.

There are jobs to be had in videogames I am sure, I used to work at a company down the road thats now Crytek UK so I wouldnt have a shortage of places to apply. I am here on TMP to look into the feasiblity of working freelance sculpting and modelling for 3D print. If that doesnt look viable then i will be going back to games and for a lugh I will probably send an application in to ILM when the London office goes live in the next few months.

If you're in Nottingham already, you're in the heart of the industry. You have games workshop, mantic games, warlord games, to name but a few. I would try picking up the phone and speak person to person. If nothing else, it's a good excuse for a business lunch at the Trip.

Lee Ray27 Feb 2014 3:43 a.m. PST

@Jezeger, they are all on my list just sorting out my Cv and will send in some samples. It would be great if the held intgerviews in a pub but some how I doubt it ;-)

Lee Ray27 Feb 2014 3:45 a.m. PST

@JBR, thanks appreciate it.
