I don't seem to recall seeing these listed, by any manufacturer, not that they were very successful. Still, I think it might be fun to try to delay, stop the red hordes in Europe with antiquated/obsolete equipment. So, does anyone make these? Closest I'm aware of are the 1/87th ROCO vehicles. |

They were under powered, but the 20mm gun was great. I have no idea of who makes one but don't confuse it with the recon version of the m-113. |

Would take quite a bit of work to convert an M113. Might as well scratchbuild it and use the tracks

I'd buy some, especially if there's an option for the original 50 cal mount instead of the 20mm. |

Oooooh Armored Cav with M114 and Sheridans! Bring on the Commie Hordes in their T-62s! I'm surprised if QRF does not make one. |

Thanks for the suggestions. I have been on the QRF site, and don't recall seeing one, although to be fair, I did miss the Jaguar 1 they produce, a while back. Yea, I'd like the option of the .50cal, and 20mm turrets too. Need something to go with those hi-tech Sheridans which try to fly when you fire their main guns. Supposedly, they lift off their treads back to about the 2nd or 3rd bogie. I suspect if you fired the gun to the side, they'd tip over. I need five of the M-114s, for the older cavalry unit. |

One of the M-114's main problems was even a fairly small mine would literally blow it in two |

I didn't realize that, but had read about other problems, e.g. swerving out of control when breaking one of its rubber tracks. At least one commander was killed when the track he was riding in flipped over on him. Apparently, they were pretty quiet, and obviously low profile as well, so good for stalking, but pretty underpowered too. Had difficulty climbing up some hills, roads, when loaded. The M-551s and M-113s had similar issues with mines, and the troops preferred to ride on top of the latter, whenever possible, to avoid casualties. Seems like a bit of a waste to bother building an armored vehicle in that case. Supposedly, they added sandbags onto the floor of their tracks for more protection. |

We vaporized a couple old M114s when I was on rotation at Fort Irwin. Had a bunch of leftover demo and whatnot, so a couple O/Cs drove us out into the impact area and let us set it all off under some target vehicles. One M114 had the loving attention of a dozen M21 antitank mines shoved under it. When we blew it, the top deck flew a good 150 meters or so, and all that was left of the rest of it was a small chunk of hull. I could probably whip up a M114 in Sketchup in a few days. The only problem will be printing it economically. |

The closest thing is probably QRF's M113 C&R Lynx. |

I was thinking Quality Castings might have one but I didn't find a listing on the Old Glory 15s site. I could have sworn they did once upon a time. Sorry. Pat |

A fun vehicle to drive. There were over 100 of them sent to Ft Riley to use as targets back in 1981. Almost all of them ran, so we immediately put them to use. They were far better than jeeps in the mud that substituted for roads at the gunnery complex. That 283 Chevy gas engine was in demand in the civilian sports car market at the time, so they were removed from quite a few of the targets first. |

It says something that the ARVN, who were always hard up for armored vehicles, refused the large number of M-114's that the US offered them. |
Mako11 | 26 Feb 2014 12:47 p.m. PST |
I guess they might have, since they have a lot of other recon vehicles. I've contacted them a while back, and put it on my list, to see if they'd consider producing more Cold War stuff. Got a positive response, and they said there just might be more stuff forthcoming, so you might want to add your wants to their list, too. Mine included a vast list of armor in 1/100th scale, plus European infantry too. Hopefully, someone will produce it in metal. That Lynx does look like a reasonable stand-in, in the interim, though I'd prefer to wait for the real model. |

Here's a good article on the M114, in case anyone is interested: link |
