Would Desert Rats work as WWI Brits in Palestine or Mesopotamia? There seem to be very few cheap options for them in 15mm out there (30p per figure or less). |

Shorts, shirts and tin hats/sun helmets would be fine but WW2 webbing is completely different |

Not really IMHO but they are closer than not. It will be a personal judgement thing so maybe get a few samples and check them out against the photos of the time. Have you checked out the Minifigs range for WW1 Middle East? Also Eureka Miniatures? Robert |

I haven't managed to find many late war pictures for WWI Martin – what are the big differences (I can't really tell myself)? The Minifigs ones look quite nice, if slightly more expensive than I prefer. Eureka have the Aussies and the Turks I would need, but are twice as much as the CD Brits. |

"what are the big differences (I can't really tell myself)?" Universal pouches vs small .303 clip pouches. WW2 pattern e-tools vs WW1 pattern e-tools. Small packs vs large marching packs (or no packs) WW2 pattern water bottles vs WW1 pattern water bottles. |

Where can you buy the minifigs Brits from these days? |
Inventedregiment | 25 Feb 2014 3:40 p.m. PST |
WB – Caliver Books, if I recall correctly. Martin – well, the ones I'm looking at seem to be missing both entrenching tools & marching packs. As for the water bottles, I can't really tell in 15mm, so I suppose the only problem is the pouches
That said, the pictures I've seen, the WW1 webbing is stacked, which in 15mm looks pretty similar to the longer WW2 pouches, at least to me
You mentioned sun hats. At risk of sounding even more ridiculous, would Tin Soldier colonial Italians work as well? |

If the figures don't have e-tools or packs then you can probably get away with it. If the pouches are really offensive, you could always trim/file them down a bit – they only tend to be very obvious on 'standing-firing' type poses. Just avoid any figures with Thompson or Brens! If the Italian figures are in light order (ie no dodgy packs or whatever) then I'm sure they would do although you might need to file the end of their rifles down to look like SMLEs. Peter Pig also do swappable heads if you wanted to convert some of the 8th Army types, they do British colonial style pith helmets, Italian desert pith hats and turbans for Sikh units. |

If Command Decision are a match for Peter Pig I would definitely do that! I just performed my first 15mm head-surgeries and it wasn't nearly as painful as I thought it would be. Of course! I had already intended to keep well away from such things. Just the odd Sterling (joke). I suppose I just need to work out whether a Bren or an SMLE is easier to turn into a Lewis gun

I would have thought a Bren, but even with the Bren bipod, reciever and stock you have the issue of building up the barrel. Maybe easier on a prone figure to cut the whole barrel off and replace it with a thicker bit of sprue. |

Looking at the size of the PSC 1917, I think a little liquid greenstuff would probably do for building up the barrel. It might be a bit of a nuisance to build the drum on top though. |
