Armand, That is some sort of alternate history, since it talks about naval battles in 1864 and 1916 involving the Republic of Texas. In real life the RoT ceased to exist in 1846. BWW |

I think it is good stuff, thanks Armand! And Brian, as a Texan you should know the Republic of Texas has never stopped existing! |

Hear, hear Texas Jack. What do you plan for this weekend; brisket? chili? Lone Star longnecks? |

Goodness anleiher, you are torturing me with that brisket talk! I am 100% Texan, but I married a Czech woman and live in the Czech Repbulic. Brisket here is about as scarce as hen´s teeth! My wife can make some great Texas chili though, so that could be on the menu. For meat we have our own pigs, so I think maybe pretty soon, at least by San Jacinto Day, we will have to put some ribs on the grill and put together a good homemade barbecue sauce. And no Lone Star, but some good Czech beer to wash it down works just fine! But the brisket I really miss

Armand, It would absolutely work for some sort of alternate history timeline. In fact, the Republic of Texas does seem to be quite a popular subject in that field. Of course, the real story of the Texas Navy is pretty interesting in its own right, even without an alternate history. It is the only sailing ship navy to defeat a steam powered navy in combat, at the Battle of Campeche in 1843. Texas Jack, You are quite right of course, and as a native I should have remembered that. I shall have to do some form of penance; the only problem is that I can't think of anything to do that isn't fun. Visit the Battleship Texas? Eat some BBQ? Neither of those is really an inconvenience. BWW |
