Looking to start nids. Any suggestions or helpful hints? I love the looks of the bigger things personally. |

Well, you want to start small first, then get the big stuff. Tyranids is a 'swarm' army, so small critters like Termagants and Hormagaunts are a must. Once you have the basics, then get the Trygons/Mawlocs, Tyrannofexes/Tervigons, Haruspexes/Exocrines, etc. This would make a good start: link |

I started mine with a similar box, years ago. It should keep you busy for a while. Nowadays I'm really wanting a Trygon
or two. |

WHAT? No Genestealers? That has to be a MUST. 8) |

I would suggest you start with Space Hulk if you can get your hands on it. You get some awesome looking Genestealers, a game you can play right away, and with the addition of another box of Genestealers you could easily field a small force for 40K right off the bat. Then you can build from there. On top of it being a cool looking army with super tough close combat troops it would also be neat to do a campaign as you build up the rest of your forces. You could play the Genestealers against your opponents representing games where the infiltration forces have run into the planetary defense troops, even if they are marines. After you get some of your other stuff done you start to do the invasion. Paint some of the bigger stuff you like first, like Carnifi, to establish the beach head and you have the genestealers to back them up. Then get the termagants and hormagaunts to bulk out your army for when the invasion is fully underway. |

Except genestealers in the current codex kinda suck, so take the above advice with a pinch of salt! Of the big creatures, current favorites include a Flying Hive Tyrant, the Hive Crone and the Mawloc, can't go wrong with those. Your biggest issue is going to be maintaining synapse; while the new codex might not be the complete disaster early reports indicated they certainly did us no favors with the new instinctive behavior rules. Might be worth picking up a box of the new Tyranid Warriors for the Tyranid Prime as a cheap HQ. |

WHAT? No Genestealers? That has to be a MUST. They have not been for a very long time. As for helpful hints. Don't start Nid's – GW did not do a very good job on their Codex. |
