For my kids little league, I had to attend umpire training for a total of nine hours. As we went through the rules, I kept saying to myself…"I'm the geek for being a wargamer because we have crazy rules???" Oh brother!!! I thought it was just hitting a ball. What the heck? Anyway, I can proudly say wargaming is less complicated!

Try thinking of all the different ways someone can get one base, quite a few.

I commend you for doing this. I refereed hockey for about 10 years. I just stopped this season. Too many other things to do.
As I was told early on, remember, you are the only one getting paid so you owe it to everyone to be prepared. Always project an air of confidence. You can sell questionable calls if you are in control.
Good luck.

My father and I used to get into a number of arguments, he called my games "Kids games" to which I replied that any kid can play Basketball but not every kid can play ASL.

At least we don't have to deal with bratty parents. wink

i have never fully agreed with the paradigm that grown men watching other men run around in tight uniforms playing with a little ball is somehow cool and mature, while playing with toy soldiers is geeky. I can understand why someone could say PLAYING sports is less geeky, but just watching others play sports hardly seems "manly."

I have know another little league parent who owns a comic book store and he has commented that its considered odd for his customers to dress up as a comic book hero, or where some sort of marvel paraphernalia to go to see a new movie, but its OK for a grown man to go to a Giants game wearing a Victor Cruz jersey.

I think its all good.

Never seen baseball, golf and cricket are incomprehensible to me. American football might be good, but I don't understand enough about it, soccer is for girls…rugby, however, is a proper sport!

Actually, bot really true. All of the above are games; sport is hunting, fishing and shooting…and. arguably, mountaineering.

Ethanjt2128 Feb 2014 12:31 p.m. PST

Hunting is the only sport I partake in. Everything else is a game. I especially love "Fantasy Football". To me it's just DnD for "jocks"
