A little while back I posted a question about gaming Star Trek and what ships were available and I got plenty of info but it did lead to another thought, does anyone game the reboot world of the new Kirk/Spock movies? While my preference is for TOS and it's movie franchise I am curious. Supposedly the reboot Enterprise is considerably larger than the TOS Enterprise, and I'm assuming she is different in other ways as well, not least in her engine nacelles. I'm assuming that there are already tech specs etc. for the rebooted world, I'm assuming that Klingon and Romulan ships would be different as well. Again please excuse my ignorance as I am truly a novice. Also please forgive me if I have accidentally committed some heresy. While we will most likely be gaming the TOS primarily , on an at most three or four ships a side I am curious about the possibility of expanding to the reboot. So I guess my question at its root is what support if any is available for reboot gaming? |

If that abomination warped into a battle on my tabletop, it would become an immediate fire magnet for both sides. But, to each his own! |

Miniatures-wise, Wiz Kids released a game with reboot figures, and a couple of ships. I don't think the reboot designs have made it into the Attack Wing game, though. Also, I think Hot Wheels or Johnny Lightning released a few ships as larger diecasts. I don't think the reboot offers anything new over TOS, to be honest, not in terms of starship gaming, anyway. Same principles seem to apply – Starfleet is a 'vanilla' collection of spaceborne parallels for modern warships, Klingons are grubbier, but honourable, Romulans are sneaky
Visually, it could be a neat variation on the old theme, but that's all. |

I actually enjoyed the 1st film (much to my surprise). The second one however was a mishmash of Indiana Jones and Die Hard -- both movies I liked but not at all what I want in Star Trek so, no, I won't be gaming the reboot. I quite like the earlier movies, especially their ship designs and somewhat slower paced tactical battles. |

I'm with chriskrum, though enjoyed the second slightly more. My true Trekker friends [sorry, don't have my own uniform] violently disagree. Between the two movies, I don't think there's enough to build much of a game from, especially as we gamers tend to want legions of various designs. I may have to give them a re-look; not sure if there were some images of ships I missed. And, unless you're mixing 'universes', just about any rule set can be played for the 'reboot'. The internal game balance should keep you playing, and I tend not to get enough out of the screen battles to quibble otherwise. Doug |

I was really disappointed with the reboot design. While I enjoyed the movie I would have enjoyed it a lot more if they went real retro on the designs. IMO These are way better than what they brought to the movie.

I saw the first reboot and thought it was good, not Wrath of Khan or Voyage Home but definitely better than the Next Generation flicks. I haven't seen the second. PapaSync those are nice looking ships and I was somewhat disappointed in the reboot Enterprise, I really wish that they had just had the good old NCC 1701. TOS recognized that the Enterprise herself was as much a character as Kirk or Spock. Its one of the things I dislike about NGen, Picard sure goes through a lot of ships. |
