There is an annoying watermark from the video software used by the author, but most of the clips are pretty good, and you can see quite clearly the target and the missile. YouTube link |

I don't know about everyone else, but I really enjoy watching videos of people being killed. Especially with an over-excited Islamic soundtrack. Never mind, I suppose they're only killing 'each other' so it's OK

Yeah, I won't watch it, either. The videogame, ain't-it-cool aspect sickened me back during Gulf War I, with all the shots of smart bombs and night-vision attacks on running people, and it's only gotten worse since then. There is an annoying watermark from the video software used by the author Man, talk about "first-world problems." |

well I do sympathise with you both but then again welcome to the would of thousands of vets like me
.it will give the dare I say it novice a good Idea of how some of todays ATGM work and what happens when those missiles service those targets. Hell encourage your kids to watch it maybe when they grow up they may remember that war is really not that cool of thing to do and stop it . Today you can not dicipline or correct a child or offer words strong enough to overcome the street so who knows maybe a little look at what happens when men decide to resolve conflict with force instead

You assume too much. I'm a 'vet' too. I'm quite aware of what weapons and ordnance do to the human body. I don't need a YouTube reminder, and neither do my children. It's particularly inappropriate on such a site as this. The public perception of wargaming is skewed enough as it is. |

You will notice that the missiles even if the Syrian's were trying to use Overwatch or missile watch are both faster and harder to detect. Little chance of detection if buttoned up. The weapons in that envirionment still display a prominent backblast and engagement que. One might now understand the expense of an Active defense system

Regardless, I won't watch either
but they will continue to slaughter each if they only had sticks and stones

D you are right I should not have assumed
Also while trying to describe whats going on for a novice I forgot to mention the flight paramiters of the missile indicate a 2nd or 3rd generation SACLOS or later missile system,The operator need only paint the target until missile strike or untill the missile gains and reports lock to itd CLU.
Thats why the missile corkscrews and then settles down to a more stable flight untill strike
. It's particularly inappropriate on such a site as this. The public perception of wargaming is skewed enough as it is. D you might be right so forgive me if the old soldier in me looks at it as a learning tool I do agree with some of your thoughts |

I think it's fine for this sight people will believe what they want anyway so it doesn't matter, We talk about and watch violent war movies here so what really is the difference. |

<<It's particularly inappropriate on such a site as this. The public perception of wargaming is skewed enough as it is.>> Inappropriate? On this site that deals with simulations of the same weapons and tactics? Not only does this video apply directly to a significant amount of gamers on this site, it allows non veterans to actually understand these weapons and the damage they cause. |

Looks like they are trying to guide a bottle rocket. Thanks for posting-if you don't want to watch-don't it is totally appropriate for this site. |
elsyrsyn | 20 Feb 2014 1:56 p.m. PST |
Agreed on two counts – first, I personally don't dig watching video of people being killed, and second, I can just choose not to watch it. To the subject at hand, having seen video of range firing of ATGMs, it surprised me just how wild those things are when they're just out of the tube
makes those minimum range rules seem a lot less arbitrary. Doug |

Saw footage of one on the news the other night, and apparently it hit the target, and then glanced off upwards into the sky, at about a 30 – 45 degree angle. Never expected to see that, but you could tell by the red flare burning at the rear, to trace it. |

From an "academic" POV obviously the information has applications for gaming purposes and military knowledge generally
Unfortunately it's a state of nature in combat people die. Of course, my thoughts are as long as AQ, ISIS, Jihadists, etc. types do the dying. I'm O.K. with that
but in this situation that is always not the case
sadly

Wow, some of those shots were impressive. On a different tack, it seems to me that you could unfailingly locate the shooters with directional sound detection of the "Allahu Akbars" that are ALWAYS yelled with the shot

Right on, Cloudy. We've taken to using the term 'snackbar' to describe the over-the-top chanting that typically comes with even the most basic evolutions for these

I dunno what they are. Incompetents with dimethyl-chloride chemical-based IEDs, perhaps? |
