If membership of a Yahoo Group is moderated and the moderator either ignores the request or no longer uses the associated email adddress, then your membership request will never be processed and you will not get access.

So yes, it's an electronic derelict.

Hmmm…I recently tried twice to join the Strandhogg group. Both times, the request hit a time limit without action and I was rejected. frown

once in a blue moon YAHOO does go thru its groups and deletes those that are inactive but mostly they are in the electronic limbo

I am on a couple list but can not post because Yahoo says my account has expired

It's not just Yahoo, there is all sorts of data that is no longer useful but never deleted. Just as there are bunches of accounts (email, facebook, etc) that are never deleted (or maybe stay unused for a long time before they are deleted).

I'm trying to get federal legislation passed to stop the wasteful use of bits and bytes.

I did that with a yahoo email list. I let it go for about two years, ignoring the occasional request, and then finally deleted it. I had it for 10 years. It was a sad moment because it used to have several hundred posts a month with lots of info in the files section. (It was on railroading and modeling.) I kept it lingering for those members who wanted to access the info. But I finally had enough and deleted it.

Yeah, I am long-winded….

I run a FoW yahoo group for people who wanted to be independent from the old-old BF forums (over ten years ago). At the time it was quite active and it served it's purpose then. I note a few of the people that were there are here now – Clay, Steve from Dallas and a few others I recognise. It is dead now as well. I sent out a message about a year ago saying that I was going to delete the group then forgot about it. It is still in limbo. Occasionally I get an 'unsubscribed' email and the very occasional 'subscribe' one. Must do something about that one day :)
