I know a few Tiger 1s were grey. Does anyone know where they were used? Thanks |

Both the 502nd and 503rd Tiger battalion were used on the eastern front in 1942/43 with grey Tigers. The former on the Leningrad front, the other with Army Group South during Mansteins operations to relive Stalingrad and the backhand blow at Kharkov. |

Tamiya had this Tiger in Panzer Grey listed as "Tank no.332, sPzAbt 503, Russia, October 1943," which would make it post-Kursk, but I'm not sure if it's accurate or not since I believe grey was phased out by then in favor of dunkelgelb variation camouflage.

Trivia time! Tiger 332 of sPzAbt 503 was lost in action on January 27, 1944 (friendly fire from an LAH Panther). |

p6 Tigers in Combat Vol 1 by Wolfgang Schneider re 502 " The first tanks delivered still had the grey paint and were not paint any further" The Pz IIIs had camo over the grey The 1st Co Tigers had a whitewash applied in winter and in Spring 1943 were repainted yellow-olive The 2nd & 3rd companies arrived in factory applied yellow-olive paint. |

The second and third companies didn't arrive until after dunkelgelb was the official colour. Well, it was more complex than that but that will do for a post from a phone:) |
