What color were the Tiger Tanks used in Tunisia? I have heard some olive green color. I am looking for a vallejo equivalent. Thanks |

Only some were the olive green, but yes it was used. You can do a lot worse than the old BF article – it recommends Vallejo 924 (Russian Uniform) for the green ones: link |

FoW says the olive green used was from the Italian Air Force, which is quite true, but the Italian green was a fair bit darker than Vallejo Russian Uniform. |

iirc one of Wolfgang Schneiders numerous exahustive works on Tiger tanks went into immense detail on what colours each individual tank (or as many as we know about) in Tunisia was painted. I shall have to consult when I get home. |

I presume that when the Tigers reached Tunisia they were repainted there like everything else. The paint jobs were not perfect. Whether painted sand, yellow or green you would still see patches of the original color (grey) showing on the tank. I have seen so many models painted perfectly which in reality they did not look like that or at least I think so. |

It certainly doesn't look like that from photos of the vehicles and I think the vehicles of the 504th in particular were painted at the factory in their desert camo as they'd been designated for that theatre. The Bovvy tiger was stripped right back and there wasn't any panzer grey underneath the desert brown/green camo. |

I stand corrected. I was just under the impression that sand/yellow German tanks did not start rolling out till after 43. |

Wolfy Schneider Tigers in Combat Vol 1 p 4 re 501 "All vehicles in the battalion were painted in sand-olive prior to transport ot Africa." p 9 re 504 " The tanks in the initial inventory had the same sand-olive color as schwere Panzer-Abteilung 501." |

Yes sand Olive was the basic scheme, but when the battalion got to theatre the Olive was repainted a darker shade of sand/dungelgelb so you would have exactly the same look as Bovingtons Tiger. |

References or it didnt happen. Tigers in combat says they used American olive drab and Wolfgang is pretty reliable. Remember at 15mm the shade should be lighter. There is also weathering etc to consider. Russian green isnt a bad choice when you consider that |
