Who makes the best 25/28mm cavalry figures for the plains war era? I'm looking for both mounted and dismounted figures, but not necessarily 7th Cav. Thanks. |

Artizan & Foundry. Even though Artizan calls their range "7th Cavalry" there is nothing specifically 7th Cavalry about them. |

I like RAFM's range. But they are true 25mm,and don't mix well with other ranges, -except probably Old Glory. |

I think Foundry makes a great Plains War range. |

And the Old Glory US cavalry are also good. Jim P.S. Yes, Foundry makes a range as well that are very nice. |

Lead Pusher, In my opinion, the best 28mm Plains Wars Cavalry and Indians have not yet gone into production, but are hopefully still in the works. See this Old West Message Board, line dated 31 Dec 2013, and take a look at some of the proposed Cavalry and Indian figures by Offensive Miniatures. I've been holding off a major purchase of Plains War figures for gaming and dioramas in hopes that this company will ramp this project up soonest. And of course, I can always hope that the Perry brothers will lend their considerable talents to the development of a Plains Indians Wars line as well--in plastic! |

Worth noting that converting ACW cavalry to those in the field up to 1973 is pretty trivial, and even after that date a lot of troopers were still using old Civil War stocks. Put it this way – I've used Perry ACW plastic cavalry as the basis of 1889 British lancers, and it really wasn't much of a stretch:
