Ok so I have these from Dark Realm Miniatures

And I converted this one from Rebel Minis

But I want more.
So I'm looking for dropships, vtols or helicopters either 6mm models, or 15mm that can be adapted with minimal conversion work. Vehicles to move a squad, tank, platoon… for some Dropzone Commander style gameplay.
So far I've found:

Steel crown productions

I'm also aware GZG has some but sadly there are no pictures.
So if anyone has pictures of the GZG lines or knows of any other companies that produce 6mm flying transport please share.
thanx.

Reaper's older "True Scale" CAV vehicles make great 6mm scale dropships.

Went looking for an image of the little dropship from Final Fantasy: Spirits Within, and found this thread.

Looks more 10-15mm, but does remind me a bit of the large Dropzone AFV carriers. You'd have to work out clips yourself.

Do look over the Titanium toys. Raptors are only a start.

The RDF are looking sweet!

How about the ship from Old Crow?

Seen on slide 28:

Daemonscape carry the ex-GZG resin 6m range: link

There are several dropships/landers on that page, some of which can be re-purposed for 15mm as well.

Just did an eBay crawl. Wow.

Never mind about the Copperhead…

Wow.

I use most of the above as 'fillers' for my starport or impressed civilian shuttles etc, some of these appear like passenger shuttles but are great value and handy for parts to modify other models……I also have several 15mm grav apc's from Old Crow that have a 'tough and military lander' feel to them, large enough to assault land a platoon of armour at least….See the Outrider and the gladius apc here

link

Also have a Thunderbird2 diecast minus its tail plane – eBay spare or repair- another good option.

Ethanjt2116 Feb 2014 1:30 p.m. PST

I've always thought that Clear Horizons Drop Pods would make excellent orbital insertion for 6mm mechs. Haven't seen it though.

Gaz004516 Feb 2014 1:56 p.m. PST

I also bought a couple of the grey and yellow 'fighters' seen here – again a good sized shuttle/ lander….

auction

The Old Crow shuttle is very nice- just assembled and primed one- on the paint tray for this week………

Like the TB2 I picked up…… 9cm long….

auction

Here's a link to an old pic of some of the Gzg flyers….

no one mentioned Ravenstar's 15mm ships? They can easily be converted to 6mm

Cacique Caribe16 Feb 2014 5:54 p.m. PST

How about this hard plastic toy "shuttle"? It's obvious that 15mm figures are too big for it:

Been saying this for years :)

Can't get you photos here, but the GZG flyers are still nice: The Boxcar is very much a jetlift AV version of the Heuy Hog, while the rest are great helicopters. Transport choppers for SF in 6mm are vastly outnumbered by gunships, but those mentioned so far are very good – especially the CAV Merlin, which looks as if it will carry an MBT.

Chatticus Finch16 Feb 2014 7:33 p.m. PST

Have you considered Plasmablast games? They have some VTOLs etc?

Lfseeney16 Feb 2014 10:57 p.m. PST

I have a ton of clix Mech Warrior, stuff.

Looks good as 6mm.

Should have gone to the Tactical Command site – link My Dropship Fleet –

picture
There are Bandia, GZG, AMT, and a couple of long OOP GW in the fleet … Here's one I made from a Burger King Star Trek toy …
picture
If you'd have been on Tactical Command you'd have seen all the 6mm SF dropships, VTOLs, Choppers, Pods, etc. that are or were around … wink

leidang17 Feb 2014 1:31 p.m. PST

The bishop VTOL from teh Mechwarrior clix game. As a bonus the cargo pod is removable and can be replaced with an apc or vehicle.

(Major Disaster)18 Feb 2014 12:02 p.m. PST

I use the old Hallmark Star Trek Runabout ornament as a 6mm dropship

AWuuuu18 Feb 2014 12:27 p.m. PST

The Beast – Final Fantasy VTOL is 10mm really, but Its perfect sized for 15mm. I can post pics with 15 mm miniatures.

But it is quite realistic frame so cargo space is sub par to normal bulky lander of similar size.

Have you seen the grav platoon insertion vehicles from Darkest Star Games:

Very nice stuff boys ! The Runabout is still available on eBay – auction

stroezie21 Feb 2014 7:26 a.m. PST

Wow, thanks for the great response everybody.
I ended up scrach-building one myself and I ordered two GZG (DF-V05)VT-51 SUPER BOXCAR heavy lift VTOL's to go with it.

Here's a few pics of the scrachbuild

All in all it was rather fun, I think once this one is painted I'll build me some more.
I'll also be saving my eurocents for the Daemonscape Big Rig and/or the BigBertha.
One more question for those of you who have one of these. In the product discription it says " hollow and suitable for internal detailing" how feasible is this would you say?
Thanx.

stroezie21 Feb 2014 12:17 p.m. PST

One more picture with a coat of primer on it.

Logain21 Feb 2014 12:24 p.m. PST

That's a damn nice scratch build!

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP21 Feb 2014 12:47 p.m. PST

Nice job !

Gaz004521 Feb 2014 2:01 p.m. PST

Great job on the scratch build, lots of ideas there for inspiration big variablelift engines for one……let's see what's in the bits box!

Leland, in your post are those the Darkest Star 15 mm prototypes next to a 20 mm Stryker? With a smaller turret refit they would make nice 'clean' drop ships………just right for power armoured stompers and walkers…………mmmmm.

BlackWidowPilot Fezian21 Feb 2014 4:36 p.m. PST

Gaz, that is *precisely* what they are and why I called 'em to the OPs attention. All it would take is an absolute minimum of effort to convert these to 6mm assault landers…evil grin

Covert Walrus21 Feb 2014 7:24 p.m. PST

Stroezie, i'd say that Daemonscape description is spot on – Hollowed out for the original, it should be more than easy to line the insides with detail panels before assembly :)

Failure1622 Feb 2014 6:22 a.m. PST

That is a great scratch-build!

And I have often thought that the larger scale Darkest Star LODAT line would make great dropships because they are relatively scale-nonspecific.

erraticassassin22 Feb 2014 2:09 p.m. PST

There's also the Terminator:Salvation Hunter-Killer toy. It's pretty hefty in 15mm, so it would be a bit of a monster in 6mm, but there's not really any scale-specific detail so it might work.

TheBeast Supporting Member of TMP24 Feb 2014 1:47 p.m. PST

Heard of Darkest Star, but that's the first I've seen of their work. The one even LOOKS like the Dark Star. ;->=

Don't think the the HK would look good in 6mm, but I've been wrong oft enough it's almost a recommendation.

I've got drop pods for sale right now and a Tac Lifter in production. You can take a look at themajorpress.com Just starting into the 6mm Sci-Fi world. Line will be growing so stay tuned.

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP26 Feb 2014 9:25 a.m. PST

Nice stuff Burt, I posted your link on the Tactical Command …

stroezie26 Feb 2014 12:46 p.m. PST

@ The Burt
I like the look of that ship!
Just 2 quick questions:
- Can you give some dimensions or a size reference picture?
- Will you be adding any side thrusters or something to aid lift-off?

Btw. I like the term Tactical Lifter, I think I prefer it to Dropship, so from now on I shall refer to all my vehicles in this category as Tac Lifters. ;-)

The Burt26 Feb 2014 4:22 p.m. PST

Thanks Legion4!!! That is an awesome site you have.

Stroezie, glad you like my name Tac Lifter.

I've added some more pics for you.
HERE.

As for the additional thrusters--yes, along the bottom of the craft I'll have 'grav motors' represented. This beast will need all the help it can get to get off the ground. There will also be traditional chemical engines represented on the back along with a vertical stabilizer/rudder and two reverse dihedral stablevators on the empennage. Mainly cause it looks cool (at least i think so). You can see my three-way drawings on the same webpage.
The model will be a multi-part model. The fins, the cargo bay and the top. The fins will have to be glued on after purchase but the lifter is designed so that you can actually place objects/tokens in the cargo bay if you wish (might help keep straight what is where during a game).
Lastly, as far as scale is concerned, I based it's dimensions around being able to fit 4 M113A APC's in the bay in a 2x2 fashion. Or a single main battle tank. With cargo doors both in front and back, it has drive on, drive off capability as well as airdrop out the rear door if you wish.
The dome on the top represents a bit of varied functionality as well. It could contain a suppression cannon to clear the landing zone, Provide anti-missile defense perhaps, or it could be used in a purely electronic arena--command, control and comms--a mobile HQ if you will. Or even electronic countermeasures aka Jam pod.

That is some very neat scratch building there The Burt.

Here's a last set of pictures with some paint on it and a homemade flight stand.

greg95428 Feb 2014 1:14 p.m. PST

That is one good model and an excellent home make one too.

All with moving parts as well.
