The repro suits in the second pic are pretty shanty but the originals (one is forever on display at the Met) are among the most gorgeous preModern war-togs. The Qing armies, recruiting from wildly diverse populations over a huge geographical range, remain one of the most compelling and effective 17/18thC armies. I'll take a graceful Manchu banner lancer with the queu and the oversized composite bow over Polish Hussars, Ottoman Sipahis or some clunky, mud-dragging Imperialist curiassers any day.

Many thanks for your guidance my friend.

Hi Mike,

absolutely right. It is the usual "problem" of westerners to be more interested in their own history. So we have a lot of figures for the ECW, SYW and AWI. What happened on the other side of the world usually falls into obscurity.

I am always interested in the lesser known stuff and because of this I thought it is worth a try to make such figures – even if I am the only one interested in this subject…

@Bavarian: f@cking excellent! Do a whole line including tne lightly armored lancershorse-archers, Mongol banners and the gentry-raised local "militias" and I'll be on my way to happy insolvency!

The Bavarian18 Feb 2014 6:51 a.m. PST

Hi Mike,

depends on how far you are away from insolvency. If there is still some money left for figures why not:-)))

But in earnest, I wanted to cover the whole Chinese army for this period. My own plan is to work on a diorama of the Sino-Sikh war of 1841/42. Something total obscure:-)
There was an article about the other Sikh-wars in the miniature wargames magazine several years ago.

cheers
Uwe

@bavarian: not joking, the minute you finish the line, hit me up I've always wanted to build a correct17-early19thC Qing army…..

@bavarian, hit me up for real if your serious about producing this line..

Hi Mike,

these here are the first figures to go into a mould. And for sure the range will continue. Massimo charges just 20 Euro for such a master here and the mould-making is around 3 Euro more. So be sure this range will grow soon.
If you like you could help me with more informations about this army and I can take care to have the right uniforms, weapons etc.

cheers

Hi guys,

now we have the figures in our shop at

Yesterday I simply brushed the castings as the details are better to see then from my sometimes bad paintjobs…

The next thing I have in mind are other poses for them and then making a research for enemies. Any suggestions of their wars in the 18th century?

Uwe, fantastic stuff! Are you doing unarmored archers/lancers? Check out the Castiglione paintings!

Btw, are these 28mm?

The Bavarian17 Mar 2014 2:58 a.m. PST

Salve,

in the meantime I made a lot of research on the 8 Banner army. This is the uniform they wore mostly in the 17th century. It still appeared later up to the Taiping rebellion but usually the had the unarmoured uniform with the round cap. So I think I will do the others too.

But sadly for you they are 1/72, my favourite scale.

cheers
uwe
